International Environment Workshop in Sendai is held in September, 2006.

Sendai City recognizes the need for worldwide cities to promote various measures for collaboration in solving international environmental issues such as global warming. Sendai is thus promoting international environmental exchanges to contribute to environment protection on a global scale and further promote international collaboration between cities.

Sendai's environmental administration is based upon the Basic Environment Ordinance, enacted in 1996, and the City of Trees Environment Plan, which was subsequently enacted in 1997. The city is promoting pre-mediated and comprehensive policies with a long-term vision based upon this plan, which will be implemented up to 2010. We have so far performed holding of various international conferences etc., participation to the Johannesburg summit, activity centering on ICLEI, etc. We also held the International Environment workshop in Sendai in 2006.
