Sendai's roots can
be traced back to the castle town that Date Masamune, the founder of the Sendai
Clan, created in 1600. The city has developed as the political, economical, and
cultural center of the Tohoku (northeast) Region, while preserving its historical
heritages.
The city's nickname, the "City of Trees," is quite fitting, with its
zelkova trees lining the streets and the Hirose-gawa River's pristine waters flowing
through the town. This superb natural environment exists as a result of the citizens'
care for the environment they inherited from their ancestors. |
