East-West Subway Line
Sendai's East-West Subway Line is scheduled to open for business in 2015. This new subway will establish a new transportation network with the existing North-South Subway and Japan Railway Lines. It will expand individual activity areas, promote new venues of interaction and revitalize local communities. Since the East-West Subway Line will directly connect eastern industrial centers with universities and research institutions located in the Aobayama area, the new transportation network is expected to strengthen collaborations between industry and academia.

Asuto Nagamachi
Innovative urban planning is taking place in the Nagamachi area, located 5 km south of downtown. Sendai City is conducting an 82 ha land consolidation project centered around a former JR cargo yard, creating a new urban center in southern Sendai. The project is scheduled to complete in 2010.
The development is conducted in harmony with the environment and encompasses a wide variety of elements, such as "working," "living," "learning," and "fun." A new community that creates many business opportunities is beginning to emerge.
