Sendai Yagiyama Zoological Park opened in 1965. 550 animals of 145 species are displayed with regards to their habitat and taxonomy. The zoo locates at the top of Mt. Yagiyama, nearby the amusement park ”Benny Land”. This area is quite close to the city center of Sendai.

We are famous for the joint project of Japan and Russia to restore the Aleutian Canada Goose to Asia and the breeding of Birds of Prey.

African Lion, Sumatran Tiger and Polar Bear, these three new exhibits opened in July 2002. You can observe and play with them through a windowpane. This is the most pleasant spot in theZoo for visitors.

Japanese Macaque Mountain is always very interesting. You will be also surprised to see Japanese animals like a Raccoon Dog, a Bear, a Horse and etc. at a neighborhood.

Africa Zone exhibit, recreates the grassland habitat that is home to some of world’s most spectacular creatures like a elephant and a giraffe. You will see our hippo under water and a family of Abyssinia Colobus resting up in a tree.

You can see the training of African Elephant (about 14:00 − 15:00) and the Asiatic Elephant (about 15:00 − 15:30) at their indoor exhibition room.

You will feel breath of ancient creature like a tortoise, a crocodile and snake at the Reptilian Vivarium. Here is kept warm even in winter.

In winter, the park is covered with snow. You can see the animals eating and playing with it.
