On the back of such support, we are determined to take steps forward together, in order to regain our hometown, “Sendai, the City of Trees” and to create a city full of hope—one that is more safe and secure than ever before.

A LNG tanker called “AMAN SENDAI” arrived into Sendai City Gas Bureau Minato Plant from Malaysia for the first time since the earthquake.

After the earthquake, Sendai City has been providing city gas to citizens from Niigata using a pipeline. Providing gas in two ways; LNG and the pipeline as it was before the earthquake will allow us to secure a more stable supply.

The Zelkova trees on Jozenjidori Avenue have finally stared to change colors. The Sendai Pageant of Starlight will begin next month. Preparations for putting LED light bulbs on the trees for the Sendai Pageant of Starlight have begun. The event was likely to be cancelled this year because all of the 550,000 light bulbs were washed away by the tsunami. However, as a result of the exhausting efforts of all the people involved in the event, it was decided that the Sendai Pageant of Starlight will be held as usual. The Omotesando illumination Executive Committee provided the 60,000 LED light bulbs for the event.

On December 2, the Sendai Pageant of Starlight will begin with the slogan “Circle of light, Unify Our Thoughts.” All the light bulbs were beautifully lit up as they are like the lights of hope for our recovery. Jozenjidori Avenue will be transformed into a tunnel of light.

Sakunami hot springs is located approximately 40 minutes to the South of downtown Sendai by car.

The hot springs were founded in 721 by Gyouki, a Buddhist monk. When he was traveling to various hot springs in the Tohoku region, he heard the singing sound of Eurystomus orientalis. Gyouki followed the sound to the deep forest going down the hill and then he found the hot spring. He thought it was the God’s blessing and widely taught people how to bathe and the efficacy of the hot springs. It is now known as the “Hot Spring of Beauty.”

Sakunami hot springs is surrounded by abundant nature. It will soon become the best season for appreciating the autumn leaves.
