Interest Subsidies for National Education Loans

Sendai City will subsidize the interest paid on general education loans (national education loans) from the Japan Finance Corporation while your child is in high school.

  • Application Period:July 2 (Mon.) - December 14 (Fri.)
  • Eligibility:Parents and guardians of high school students who reside in Sendai
  • Conditions such as the full payment of city taxes apply

Financial Assistance for School Materials and Lunch Fees

Parents and guardians of students attending municipal elementary or junior high schools or Sendai Seiryo Secondary School (lower secondary course only) who are finding it difficult to send their children to school due to financial difficulties, are eligible to apply for assistance.

  • Eligibility:Households with a yearly income below a certain level, Households receiving a child-rearing allowance, Households that no longer receive welfare allowance

Garbage Collection During the Golden Week Holiday Season (April 30 to May 5) Will Be Conducted as Usual

Household waste, plastic containers and packaging, cans, glass bottles, PET bottles, dry batteries,and paper materials will be collected as usual on weekends and holidays. In accordance with the city rules, please set out your garbage at the designated collection area on the designated collection day between early morning and 8:30a.m.

Exemption or Postponement of National Pension Payments can be Applied Retroactively for up to Two Years and One Month Before the Month of Application

From April, those having trouble paying national pension premiums will be able to apply retroactively for exemptions, payment period extensions, and student payment exceptions for a period up of up to two years and one month before the month of application. If your application is approved, you will be granted an exemption from, or extension on, national pension premiums.

HIV, Syphilis, and Chlamydia Testing

Sendai City is conducting anonymous tests free of charge.

  • Same-day HIV and Syphilis Tests (Aoba Ward)

・Date: May 19 (Sat.)
・Hours: 1:30-3:00 p.m.
・Capacity: 30 people (first-come, first-served basis)
Miyagi Dental Association Hall (1-5-1, Kokubun-cho, Aoba-ku)
・Date: May 11 (Fri.) and May 25 (Fri.)
・Hours: 5:00-7:00 p.m.
・Capacity: 30 people for each day

※You can get your test results about one hour after blood has been taken. (If the result is put on hold, you will be notified later.)

  • Night HIV, Syphilis and Chlamydia Tests (Aoba Ward)

・Capacity: 35 people (first-come, first-served basis)
※Test results will be notified directly to the test taker one week after the test.

Applications(Aoba Ward): You can make a reservation by phone using a designated number(090-4478-4641) from one month before the test until the day before on weekdays between 1:00p.m. and 4:00 p.m. Online applications are also accepted via the official city website.

The Amounts for the Child-Rearing Allowance and Special Child-Rearing Allowance Have Changed

In accordance with a partial revision of the law, the amount for the allowances has changed from April as follows. Please note that the new allowance amounts will be paid in August.

  • Child-Rearing Allowance (amounts listed are for your first child)

Full allowance: 42,500yen/month Partial allowance: 10,030-42,490yen/month

  • Special Child-Rearing Allowance (per child) 

Child qualified to Level 1: 51,700yen/month  

Child qualified to Level 2: 34,430yen/month
