Beware of Black Bears

As we move into the summer season black bears enter their breeding season and males become aggressive. If you plan on going hiking or mountain climbing, bring a radio or bell with you to make noise and make your presence known to the bears. If you do encounter a bear back away from the sight slowly while paying attention to your surroundings. If you keep a certain distance, a bear will calm down. Please check the “Bear Spotted Map” on the Sendai City’s official website before you go near forests, mountains, or bushes along rivers.

Please Don’t Forget to Apply for a Reduction of National Pension Payments

If you have difficulty making National Pension payments for financial reasons, you can apply for exemption or reduction of payments (your income will be audited and you will be assigned to one of four tiers based on your income in the previous year).

• Sendai City is conducting anonymous consultations and testing.
• Testing should be conducted after 12 weeks have passed from the day that you think you contracted the disease.

• How to apply: Choose the unit you wish to apply for, fill out the application form attached to the application packet and, using the provided envelope, send in the form by mail by July 16^th. In the event that there are more applications than available housing, applications will be chosen by lottery.

• Move-in date: September 21^st(Fri.) (tentative)
• Eligibility:Those who meet all the following conditions

1. Those that have difficulty finding a place to live.
2. Applicant must be dependent of a child under 20 years old or households with preschool children (born on and after April 2, 2013).
3. Those that reside in Sendai or commute to Sendai.

BCG Vaccinations

• Eligibility:BCG vaccinations are given to children under one year of age.

(The standard age for BCG vaccinations is five to seven months old.)

• Things to bring: Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Handbook, BCG vaccination coupon from the MCH Handbook voucher packet (please fill out and detach)
• Please wait at least 28 days after your child receives a live vaccine (such as polio) or seven days after your child receives an inactive vaccine (such as DPT-IPV) for BCG vaccinations.
