 Payment Notice for Inhabitant Tax to be Sent Out

Sendai City will send out payment notices for FY 2021 inhabitant tax on June 10th (Thu.). There are four payment slips are inside the Payment Notice. Each payment slip has a designated payment period, so please be sure to make payments with the appropriate slips within the specified periods. Please do not lose your payment slips. You can check your taxation information with the taxation statement.

Please make the first FY 2021 inhabitant tax payment at your closest financial institution by June 30th (Wed.). If paying by bank/postal transfer, the transaction will be processed on June 30th (Wed.).

 Tax Exemption and Tax Payment Extension Available 

 Those who have lost employment and have a drastic decrease in their income and life has become remarkably difficult, may be eligible for exemption from inhabitant tax. Additionally, those who have difficulties paying taxes within the designated payment period, may be able to receive a payment extension. Water & Sewerage Fee Reductions for Tax-Exempt Households 

• Period: From the month following application to June 2022.
• Exemption Amount: Basic fees for water and basis usage fees for sewerage.
• Eligibility: All household members are exempt from paying inhabitant taxes and have a low-income as of the day of application, and do not receive financial support from other households.
  ※Please be aware that some tax-exempt households may not be eligible for the fee reductions depending on the condition of their building and usage of water.
• How to Apply:
  【Renewal application】”Notice for water & sewerage fee reduction period expiration” are sent from the City of Sendai. A form for renewal application and a return envelope will come with the notice.
  Fill in the form and detach it from the sheet along the dotted line and either post it using the included return envelope or bring it to us.

1.FY 2021 Certificate of Prefectural/Municipal Tax Exemption for all household members. However, the certificate is not required for dependents 18 years of age or younger at the time of application or those who agreed for us to check their tax information to confirm their

Don’t Forget to Submit Your Child Allowance Notification of Conditions

If you receive child allowance, you must submit a Notification of Conditions in order for Sendai City to confirm your eligibility and financial situation. The notification will be sent to you in mid-June. Please complete and submit it to one of the following offices* by June 30th (Wed.). You can also send the Notification of Conditions to the office by post or apply by using “Maina Portal” (Maina Portal is an online administration service provided by the National Government.).

Payment slips for FY 2021 National Health Insurance Premiums to be sent out

Sendai City will send out payment slips for FY 2021 National Health Insurance premiums on June 16. Please make your payment by the due date.

• A dedicated call center will be open from June 16th (Wed.) to July 2nd (Fri.).

• The FY 2021 insurance rate may be viewed at the National Health and Pension Section of Ward Offices and Miyagi General Branch Office, or Public Health and Welfare Section of Akiu General Branch Office. The rate may also be viewed on Sendai City’s official website.

Deadline to Apply for Municipal Housing is June 16th

• “The Application Guide for Sendai City Municipal Housing” will be provided from June 4th (Fri.) at the following locations:

   Lifelong Learning Assistance Center,

• How to apply: Choose one municipal housing unit from the list, fill out the application form attached to the application guide and mail it in the provided envelope by June 16th. In the event that there are more applications than available housing, applicants will be chosen by lottery.
• Earliest move-in date: Friday, August 27th (tentative)
• Eligibility: Those who meet all the following conditions
  1. Those that have difficulty finding a place to live.
  2. Those that have relatives who are currently living together or are planning to live together.
  3. Those that reside in Sendai or commute to Sendai.
  There are other conditions such as income limit, so please refer to the application packet for details.
• Applications from those who are victims of domestic violence from their spouse or partner may have different requirements. Please contact the number below for details.
