COVID-19 Related Support

Provision of a Self-reliance Support Benefit for Households Suffering Financially from the COVID-19 Pandemic

 The City of Sendai is providing a self-reliance support benefit for households who are experiencing financial hardship as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic to households who have borrowed the General Support Fund multiple times from the Social Welfare Council.

Please consult if you are having trouble paying municipal tax

If you have experienced a significant reduction of income, and have difficulty making municipal tax payments by the due date as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic you may be eligible for the municipal tax deferment and extension scheme.

COVID-19 Vaccination Notification
Vaccination for those who will turn 12 years old

 Information will be updated on the website of the City of Sendai etc. once we have been notified about the supply of vaccines from the government.

Financial Assistance for Elementary School Entrants of April 2022

  • Eligibility: Those who meet all of the following conditions
  1. Households which meet the standard for qualifying for financial assistance for school entrants includes the following conditions:
     - Households’ incomes fall under a certain yearly income bracket or lower
     - Households that receive a Child-Rearing Allowance
     - Households that have had public assistance terminated or suspended
  2. Those who do not receive financial assistance for school entrants from other municipalities.
  3. Households that have a residence record in Sendai city as of February 1, 2022 and do not plan to move out of Sendai city by March 31, 2022.
  4. Households which do not receive public assistance as of March 2022.
  •  Amount: \ 51,060
  • How to Apply: Fill out the Application Form distributed at the time of health check-ups for elementary school entrants held at all Sendai municipal elementary schools. The Application Form can also be downloaded from the website of the City of Sendai.
  • Where to Apply: Administration Section, Public Health and Welfare Center of your local ward office

Sendai City Mail Administration Center Established

From November 1, 2021, certificates related to Family Register, Residence Record and Municipal Tax etc. which were handled by ward offices and general branch offices when requested by post, will now be processed at the Sendai City Mail Administration Center.

Eligible certificates:
Residence Record, Family Register Appendix, Certificate of Family Register of All (or Individual) Records, Certified copy of Invalidated/Closed Family Register, Municipal/Prefectural Tax (or Exemption) Certificate (Certificate of Income), Fixed Property (Asset) Tax Register Entry Certificate (Appraisal/ (Tax and) Public Dues, Depreciable Assets), Certificate of Tax Payment (General/ Continuation Inspection (Vehicle Inspection)/ Sale and Distribution of Liquor/ Application for Corporation in Public Interest Authorization), Certificates of Non-outstanding Tax Payment etc. 

  • Certificates cannot be issued even if visiting the office in-person
  • There are no changes to the issuing of Moving-out certificates by post, they will continue to be processed at ward offices and general branch offices.

Please Pay National Health Insurance Premiums by the Due Dates

National Health Insurance premiums are an important resource for the National Health Insurance system. Please pay your premiums by the due date. If you are having difficulties making payments due to reasons such as reduction of income in 2021 as a result of COVID-19, loss of employment, please consult one of the following offices immediately to inquire about fee reduction systems.

Do Not Forget your Citizens’ Health Check-up

Applications for city-organized Citizens’ Health Check-ups for the following must be sent and arrive by November 30: Additional applications for basic check-ups and screenings for stomach cancer, uterine cervical cancer, breast cancer, and colon cancer (application for screenings of lung cancer, tuberculosis and prostate cancer, have closed). Applications are distributed at Ward Offices, General Branch Offices. Applications can also be made online on the website of the City of Sendai. If you already have a ticket for a check-up, please don’t forget to take the check-up!

Taking Applications for Children’s Club Members for FY2022

Children’s Club after-school childcare centers are for first to sixth graders whose parents or guardians are unable to take care of them after school due to work or other reasons. We aim to encourage the healthy development of children through various activities and games.

  • Eligible Children: first to sixth graders (however, said children must be able to commute to the centers by themselves and take care of themselves) and are also attending school in Sendai city.
  • Fee: 3,000 yen/ month (fee reduction scheme available)
    When using extended services (6:00 p.m. to 7:15 p.m.) there is an extra 1,000 yen charge per month. Please note that you may also be asked to pay for snack and activity fees at some centers.
  • Application Period: November 22, 2021– December 11, 2021
    *excluding Sundays and National holidays
    9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. (9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. on Saturdays)
  • How to Apply: Please go directly to the children’s center where you wish to enroll your child.
  • Application forms are distributed at each children’s center and on the website of the City of Sendai from November 1.
  • A certificate of employment of the guardian is required when making an application.
  • Please note that an application may be declined if there are more applications received than available vacancies.
  • Children’s Club may be held at locations other than children’s centers.
  • If there are still vacancies available after the application period, applications will be accepted on a rolling basis.
