Newborn Baby Celebration Program, "Moricco Nobisuku Present" has been launched

  • In order to support children who were born and being raised in Sendai and their families, the City will be giving away 30,000 yen worth of merchandise. Eligible families will be able to choose the items that they want, such as nursery items and local products, etc., from an online catalog.
  • Eligibility: Babies who were born on April 1, 2022 and onward, and are registered as residents in Sendai City by March 31, 2023. A notice will be sent to those who are eligible in sequence.

Information about Tuition Support Loan for High School and other Educational Institutions

Borrowers of the Japan Finance Corporation Educational General Finance Loans (National Education Loan), may have the interest on borrowing that was paid during the student's enrollment in an educational institution (high school, vocational school, etc.) subsidized. 

  • Application Period: Until December 9 (Fri.)
  • Eligibility: Guardians of students enrolled in high schools or other education institutions, who are living in Sendai City.
  • Conditions: Complete/Full payment of Inhabitant taxes, etc.

Financial Assistance for Elementary School Entrants of April 2023

  • Eligibility: Those whose child is scheduled to enter an elementary school starting from April of 2023 and fulfil all the following requirements.
  1.  Households that are eligible for financial assistance for elementary school entrants must meet the following conditions:
    - Household income falls under a certain yearly income bracket or lower
    - Households which is receiving Child-rearing Allowance
  2.  Households that are NOT receiving financial assistance for school entrants from other municipalities.
  3.  Those who have a resident record in Sendai City as of February 1 2023, and do not plan to move out of the city by March 31 2023.
  4.  Households that are not receiving welfare as of February 2023.
  • Amount: 54,060 yen
  • How to Apply: Fill out the Application Form distributed at the health check-ups for elementary school entrants held at all Sendai municipal elementary schools. The Application Form can also be downloaded from the official website of the City of Sendai. 
  • Application Period: until December 28, 2022

Please Use Bank Transfer for Paying the National Health Insurance Premiums

Please use bank transfer, which is an easy and secure payment method, when paying the National Health Insurance premiums. If you have a cash card of the following eligible financial institutions, you can apply to pay for the National Health Insurance premiums using bank transfer at the counters of Ward Offices or General Branches, even without your account registered seal.

  • Eligible financial institutions: 77 Bank, Sendai Bank, Morinomiyako Shinkin Bank, and Japan Post Bank
  • At the counters of the National Health Insurance and Pension Section of Ward Offices and Miyagi General Branch, the Public Health and Welfare Section of Akiu General Branch
  • Items required for applying: Cash card, items which indicates the notification number of your national health insurance, such as a notification of premiums or receipts.
  • Procedures must be carried out by the account owner.

Please Pay your National Health Insurance Premiums on time

National Health Insurance premiums are an important resource for the National Health Insurance system. Please pay your premiums by the due date. If you are having difficulties making payments due to reasons such as reduction of income in 2022 as a result of COVID-19, loss of employment, etc., please consult one of the following offices immediately to inquire about the fee reduction system.

Don't forget to Apply for the Citizen's Health Check

Applications for city-organized Citizen's Health Check-ups for the following must be sent in by November 30: Additional applications for basic check-ups and screenings for stomach cancer, uterine cervical cancer, breast cancer, and colon cancer. (Applications for screening of lung cancer, prostate cancer and tuberculosis check-up are already closed.) The application guide is distributed at Ward Offices, General Branches, etc. Applications can also be completed on the official website of the City of Sendai. If you already have a ticket for a check-up, please do not forget to attend the health check.

Accepting Applications for Enrollment in Evening Classes  at the Sendai Municipal Minami-Koizumi Junior High School

Sendai City is taking applications for enrollment in evening classes at the Sendai municipal Minami-Koizumi junior high school, which is scheduled to open in April 2023.

  • Eligibility: Those who resides in Miyagi prefecture and meet any of the following conditions.
  1. Those who have passed school age without completing compulsory education.
  2. Those who graduated from junior high school without receiving adequate education due to various reasons such as non-attendance at school.
  3. Those who are non-Japanese nationals, and have passed school age without completing compulsory education in their home country or in Japan.
  • Individual counseling is also available for those who are interested.
  • Please direct any detailed inquiries to the Educational Supervision Section about eligibility of applicants, necessary documents, etc.
  • How to Apply: Fill out the designated Application Form distributed at the Educational Supervision Section, Kamisugi Building 13F, Sendai City Hall. The Application form can also be downloaded from the official website of the City of Sendai.

Accepting Applications for Children's Club Members for FY 2023

The goal of the Children's Club is to encourage the healthy development of children through various activities and games at Children's  Centers for first to sixth graders whose guardians are unable to take care of them after school due to work or other reasons.

  • Eligible Children: First to sixth graders (however, said children must be able to go to and from the centers by themselves and take care of themselves) and are also attending school in Sendai City.
  • Fee: 3,000 yen per month (fee reduction scheme available) 
    If you were to use the extended hours service (6:00 p.m. to 7:15 p.m.), there will be an extra 1,000 yen charge per month. Please note that you may also be asked to pay for snack and activity fees at some centers.
  • Application Period: November 21, 2022 to December 10, 2022

 *excluding Sundays and National holidays
 9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. (9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. on Saturdays) 

  • How to Apply: Please go directly to the Children's Center where you would like your child to register at. 
  • Application forms are distributed at each Children's Center starting from November 1, and can also be downloaded from the official website of the City of Sendai.
  • Documents such as the certificate of employment of the guardian, etc., is required when submitting an application.
  • Please note that an application may be declined if there the number of applications received is more than the number of vacancy at a facility.
  • Children's Club may be held at locations other than Children's Centers. 
  • If there are still vacancies after the end of the application period, applications will continue to be accepted.
