Financial Loan for School Entrants

  • Eligibility: Households with children who will start elementary school or junior high school and apply to one of the following conditions:
    1. Households who reside in Sendai for 6 months or longer at the time of application
    2. Households who have financial difficulties
  • Amount of Loan = up to 50,000 yen per elementary or junior high school child
    (not including households on welfare)
    up to 100,000 yen per high school child who enters a public school
    up to 150,000 yen per high school child who enters a private school
  • Repayment Deadline=Within 20 days after a two-month grace period
    Within 30 days after a two-month grace period if you borrow 150,000 yen
  • There is an application screening process. No interest will be added to the loan.
  • You must have a guarantor living in Sendai.
  • Application Period: March 30, 2012

Financial Assistance for School Entrants

  • Eligibility: Low income households(excluding households on welfare)with children who will start elementary school or junior high school and apply to one of the following conditions:
    1. Households who receive financial assistance for school enrollment fees
    2. Households who no longer apply for public assistance within fiscal year 2011
    3. Households who receive child care allowance
    4. Households who fall under a certain income bracket
      (Including income of a guardian who lives away from home for work)
    5. Households on Public Assistance are excluded
  • Amount= 22,000 yen per elementary school child
    27,000 yen per junior high school child
  • Application Period= March 1 - July 31
  • What to Bring: any form of documents proving the above condition
    Residential record for all household members

Assistances for Disaster Afflicted Citizens

For those who evacuated from the designated evacuation zones of Fukushima Prefecture.

According to the special law on the evacuees from the nuclear power plant zones, those who were evacuated from the 13 designated evacuation zones of Fukushima Prefecture to Sendai, can receive the below listed city services without moving their residential records. However, you will be required to inform your current address and other information to your ward office or general branch office before receiving any of those services. If you have already done that and wish to use certain services, please consult us.

*When you come to the offices, please bring any form of ID to identify you.(ex. drivers license)

Application for removal and demolition of disaster damaged houses

Sendai city will remove and demolish disaster damaged houses upon requests from the owners. The application will be accepted until March 30. If you wish to use this service, please apply now.

  • Eligibility: Houses owned by small or medium sized business owners and private individuals with
    Houses, determined as “Mostly Destroyed” or “Completely Destroyed”
    *Private individuals whose houses were determined as “Half Damaged” or more are also eligible.

    For small and medium sized business owners Sendai Park Building(Sendai City’s temporary office)or Local Industry Support Section

Subsidy for Reconstruction of Residential Land

Sendai City subsidizes a partial cost of reconstruction of residential land which was damaged by the disaster. We will begin providing services through a consultation desk. Please feel free to contact us with questions or concerns.

Temporary Housing Repairs

Application for Temporary Housing Repairs will be accepted until March 30, 2012. Application can be accepted without an estimate for repairing cost.

  • Venue: Gallery Hall, 1st floor of Sendai City Hall
  • Hours:9:00~16:30 Monday – Friday
    *Closed on Saturdays, Sundays, and National Holidays

Reimbursement of the Health Checkups Fees that you have paid

For those who could not receive the Disaster Victim Certificate at a later stage and were unable to receive the medical fee exemption, Sendai City will reimburse health checkups fees that you have paid.

  • Eligible: Those who suffered damage during the disaster and meet the requirements for a medical fee exemption.
  • Application: Please fill out the application form distributed at the Home Health Section of each Ward Office and the Public Health and Welfare Section of each General Branch Office and submit it to the Health Improvement Section of the City of Sendai by March 31.(You can also download the application from the Sendai city’s official website)
