Side Effects

Side Effects

The vaccines expected to be provided to Japan are from Pfizer Inc., AstraZeneca plc, and Takeda/Moderna. Each vaccine is reported to have side effects such as pain near the injection area, tiredness, headache, and muscle pain.

In Japan, you are required to stay at the location where you received the vaccination for about 15 to 30 minutes afterwards as a measure in case of side effects such as anaphylaxis. If an anaphylactic  reaction occurs, immediate treatment on site is provided.

For further information, please visit the website of the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare.

Relief System for Injury to Health with Vaccination

Generally, side effects of vaccinations may cause health injuries (such as falling sick or leaving an impairment). Although this is incredibly rare, risks are inevitable, thus a relief system has been established for this reason.

In the case of a health injury resulting from the vaccinations against COVID-19, relief is available under the Immunization Act.

This Relief System provides a remedy based on the Immunization Act (medical expenses or other befits such as disability pension) when the Minister of Health, Labour and Welfare approves that the health injury results from being vaccinated in the case that a recipient experienced the injury due to immunizations, and needs medical treatment at medical institution or an impairment is left.

For further information, please see the website of Relief System for Injury to Health with Vaccination, the ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (external Link) (Japanese text).
