3.Household Waste Guide

Items accepted for waste collection

•  Items that measure approximately 30cm or smaller excluding plastic Waste, cans, bottles, PET bottles and batteries. and paper materials. There is no distinction between combustible waste and incombustible waste.

You cannot put out bulky waste or items that are not collected by the City Government.

Where to put out waste

• Waste collection point
• Your waste collection point is specified. Please ask your neighbors where you should put out waste.

What days collection occurs

• Twice a week. Collection days are set for each district.
• The collection day is written on a sticker at the waste collection point. Please put out waste after checking the information.
• If you do not know your collection day, for example if there is no sticker, please contact the collection Officein the area where you live.(Phone calls can only be made in Japanese.)
• Waste is also collected on holidays. However, collection days may change during the year-end and New Year Holidays.

What time to put out waste

• Please put out the garbage bags by 8:30 on the morning of the collection day.

Please do not put waste out on the day before collection or after it has been collected. Following the rules will keep the collection point clean for your neighborhood.

How to put out waste

• Please put waste in a prepaid garbage bag designated by Sendai City and fasten the bag before putting it out for collection.
• The quantity you can put out at a time is 45ℓ in volume or 10kg in weight (roughly 1 large designated prepaid garbage bag).

Examples and instructions for putting out waste

Kitchen waste	Remove as much water from kitchen waste as possible before putting it in a designated prepaid garbage bag.
Used cooking oil	Absorb it with either cloth or paper, or use a coagulant to solidify it.
Disposable diapers	After disposing of feces in the toilet, roll the diaper up compactly with the stained part on the inside.
Fragments of glass or porcelain, knives, etc	1.Wrap them securely in thick paper or something similar.     2.Put them into a designated prepaid garbage bag (other household waste may be placed in the same bag). 3.Indicate“キケン(dangerous article)” in Japanese on the designated prepaid garbage bag containing these items.
Tree branches from your garden	Each household is only allowed to dispose of one bundle (tree branches tied up in a bundle) per collection, at waste collection points. Bundles can be collected door-to-door free of charge if you apply for pickup service. You may also bring them in yourself to the specialized facility.
