Protect yourself from landslide disasters

In September and October it is more likely that typhoons and continual rain will cause landslide disasters. In order to protect yourself against these disasters, it is best to check if there are any hazardous places around you in your daily life and prepare to take refuge to a safe place quickly.

Learn about hazardous places

The areas which are potentially subject to landslides are designated as Landslide Hazard Areas. For details, please see the ‘Sendai maps for your daily life’ page on the Sendai City official website: http://www2.wagmap.jp/sendaicity/(Opens in a new window)(External link)or contact us.
We will also distribute landslide hazard maps at ward Offices information desks from early September.

Prepare to evacuate early to a safe place

Once you receive the information on a landslide disaster in your area and/or evacuation instructions from your local government, please take refuge in an evacuation center in your neighborhood quickly or keep away from dangerous slopes or cliffs.

Disaster information can be obtained through the following media (the information is usually provided in Japanese only):

  • TV/ Radio
  • Sendai City official website
  • Publicity vehicles
  • City of Trees disaster information web/ e-mail service
