Ward Office Counters to Extend Office Hours

The period from late March to early April is the peak season for ward offices with many people trying to file changes in residence registration due to moving in or moving out. The counters of sections that handle address changes in each ward office will extend their opening hours during the period mentioned below in order to ease crowding and to shorten waiting time.

  • Period: March 23rd(Mon) - April 6th (Mon)(excluding Saturdays & Sundays)
  • Office hours: 8:30 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.
    (Please come as early as possible as it may take time to complete necessary procedures.)
  • Offices: Family and Resident Registration Section of each ward office and Sendai Station Service Center(AER 5th floor)

Water & Sewage Fee Exemption in FY2015 for Households on Welfare and Households on Welfare for Japanese War Orphans who Returned From China

  • Reduction Period: From the month following application to March, 2016
  • Amount of Reduction: Exemption from basic fees for water and all fees(basic and usage fees)for sewage.
  • If you apply to receive the reduction for the first time, or have been receiving the reduction but have not submitted a letter of consent, please take your seal and visit the Public Assistance Section of your local ward office for applications by March 31st 2014.
  • Depending on the type of building you reside in, you may not be eligible for these exemptions.

The Timetable for Sendai City Buses Will Change on April 1st

Please check the new timetable at bus stops or on the Transportation Bureau’s official website at http://www.kotsu.city.sendai.jp/(External link) after March 25th(Wed.).

Distribution of New Timetables
New timetables will be distributed at Transportation Bureau ticket centers, bus business offices, and ward office information desks from March 25th(Wed.).

Recruiting Volunteer Staff for the Sendai International Half Marathon

  • Date: May 10th(Sun.)7:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
  • Main Activities: Recyclable waste collection site(eco station)staff, drink station staff
  • Number of Volunteers Required: 100(to be selected by lottery)
  • Eligibility: Those who meet all the following requirements:
    • 1) High school student age or above
    • 2) Able to engage in work assigned by the organizers
    • 3) Able to engage in work which requires you to remain standing for a long time
    • 4) Can speak, read and write Japanese to daily conversation level if he/ she is not a native
      speaker of Japanese.
    • 5) Able to comply with the instructions or notes from event organizing staff
    • 6) Able to attend the briefing held in Sendai City Gymnasium at 4:30 p.m. April 23rd(Thur.)

The Deadline to Apply for Municipal Housing is March 16th

    Applications from those who lost their houses in the Great East Japan Earthquake and those from the restricted habitation area designated in the Act on Special Measures for the Rebirth of Fukushima are also accepted, but differ in requirements. Sendai City Museum will Reopen on May 28th

Sendai City Museum will reopen on Saturday May 28th having been closed for repair work and the UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction.

BCG Vaccinations

  • Eligibility: Infants under the age of one
    (the standard age for BCG vaccinations is five to seven months old).
  • Things to Bring: Maternal and Child Health(MCH)Handbook, BCG vaccination coupon from the MCH Handbook voucher packet(please fill out and detach)
  • Please wait at least 28 days after your child receives a live vaccination(such as polio)or 7 days after your child receives an inactive vaccination(such as DPT-IPV)before having BCG vaccinations.
