Worldwide Measles Outbreak

It has been reported that Japan is experiencing an outbreak of measles. There are cases of travelers who have contracted the measles’ virus outside of Japan or developed measles after coming back (or entering) Japan. Please note the following points when you plan to travel abroad.

Before travel abroad (if you cannot confirm if you are immune to measles):

  • Check your measles’ vaccination record on your maternal and child hand book.
  • If you only received one shot of the measles vaccination, we recommend you receive another shot.

After returning to Japan:

  • Please keep watching your health condition for about two weeks after returning to Japan.

If you have symptoms which you suspect are due to measles, such as rashes all over your body, fever, cough, runny nose, or red eyes, please do not visit a medical institution. Be sure to call first and get advice.

Overseas’ Measles Outbreak Areas:

China, India, Indonesia, and other areas all over the world. Please check the latest information on our official website or contact the following offices.
