Financial Assistance for School Materials and Lunch Fees etc.

Parents and guardians of students attending municipal elementary or junior high schools or Sendai Seiryo Secondary School (lower secondary course only)who are finding it difficult to send their children to school due to financial difficulties, are eligible to apply for assistance.

Eligibility: Households with a yearly income below a certain level, Households receiving a child-rearing allowance, Households that no longer receive welfare allowance

Procedure Support for Non-Japanese Residents at Public Institutions

SenTIA has begun a community interpreter dispatch support system for non-Japanese residents, who are unable to communicate in Japanese, to public institution, such asnursery schools and ward offices, to assist with various procedures.

  • Start date: Mon. April 1st 2019
  • Languages available: Chinese, Tagalog, Korean, Vietnamese, Nepali, Russian, Spanish, Hindi, and English.

During the golden week period, April 28 to May 6, the following childcare facilities will be open. Childcare services are limited to those who are working and unable to look after their children during the holiday period.

The Amounts for the Child-Rearing Allowance and Special Child-Rearing Allowance Have Changed

In accordance with a partial revision of the law, the amount for the allowances has changed from April as follows. Please note that the new allowance amounts will be paid in August.

Don’t Forget to File the Loss of Qualification for National Health Insurance Form 

If you are enrolled in the National Health Insurance and get a job and enroll in a form of employees’ health insurance, or become a dependent of a family member’s health insurance, please go to the ward office or general branch office which you reside in and file a Loss of Qualification Form as soon as you receive the new insurance card. Please note that your National Health Insurance Card becomes invalid as of the day you enroll in employees’ health insurance.

Exemption or Postponement of National Pension Payments can be Applied Retroactively for up to Two Years and One Month Before the Month of Application

Those having trouble paying national pension premiums will be able to apply retroactively for exemptions, payment period extensions, and student payment exceptions for a period up of up to two years and one month before the month of application. If your application is approved, you will be granted an exemption from, or extension on, national pension premiums.

Pre/Post-partum National Health Insurance Premium Exemptions 

From April, National Health Insurance premiums will be exempted for four months from one month before the month your child’s expected delivery date or actual delivery day is in (in the case of multiple, exemption period will be six months from three months before).

Applications can be made six months before your expected delivery date or post-partum. When applying for the exemption pre-partum documents proving the expected day of birth are required

(ex. Maternal and Child Health Handbook).

Applications begin: April 1st(Mon.) 2019

Eligibility: Member of the NHI type 1 scheme and expected delivery date falls after Feb.1 2019.

Garbage Collection During the Golden Week Holiday Season (April 27 to May 6) Will Be Conducted as Usual

Household waste, plastic containers and packaging, cans, glass bottles, PET bottles, dry batteries, and paper materials will be collected as usual on weekends and holidays. In accordance with the city rules, please set out your garbage at the designated collection area on the designated collection day between early morning and 8:30 a.m.
