Partial Change to the Renewed Water Usage Fee and Waste Water Usage Fee Reduction Scheme

It is no longer required to submit a ‘Tax Exemption Certificate’ for tax exempt households when filing for renewal of the ‘Water Usage Fees and Waste water Fee Reduction Scheme’ as the Waterworks Bureau will be conducting tax information independently in agreeance with users. Please refer to the renewal guidance form which will be sent by post in late May to early June.

Providing a Gift of Money for your Third Child or After When They Enter Elementary School

  • Eligibility: Guardians of children who just entered elementary school as of April, 2019
  • Amount: 30,000 yen
  • Please look out for the announcement letter which will be distributed through Elementary schools or contact the following office directly for more details.

Application:Please fill in the application form attached to the announcement letter (or download the application form from the City of Sendai website). It must arrive no later than May 31, 2019.

Declaration Form related to National Health Insurance Premiums to be Sent Out

There is a system for the reduction of National Health Insurance premiums for households whose total income falls below a certain threshold. If your National Health Insurance premiums were reduced last fiscal year and Sendai City has not received your household’s total income for the last fiscal year(FY 2018), a declaration form will be sent in mid-May that must be submitted by May 28th,2019.

Please don’t Forget to Enroll in the National Pension Program When you Leave your Job

You must enroll in the National Pension program if you are aged 20-59 years old, leave your job and as a result lose your qualification to receive employees’ pension or mutual aid pension. If you have a spouse who is your dependent, your spouse must also enroll in the National Pension Program.

Light Vehicle Tax Notice Mailed

Light Vehicle Tax is levied on persons who owned a light vehicle as of April 1st of the current year. The tax notice for FY 2019 is sent on May 10th. Please pay at your nearest financial institution by May 31st. For those paying via bank transfer, the transfer day will be May 31st. If you receive welfare or have a disability, you may be eligible for a reduced tax rate. In order to get the reduction, you must apply from May 14-31. Please inquire for further details and conditions.

FY 2019 Inhabitant Tax (Exemption) Certificates (Income Certificates) to be Issued

Certificates are issued by the municipality in which you resided on January 1, 2019.

The issuing day for the FY 2019 is as follows:

For those who wish to have inhabitant taxes directly debited from their salary and those exempt from taxes

Issuing place:

  • Ward Office starts from May 15th
  • Convenience store distribution starts from May 19th

For those who wish to pay inhabitant taxes after receiving the bill and those who wish to have it deducted from their pension fund

  • Issuing of inhabitant tax certificates starts on June 7th at Ward Offices and convenience stores

BCG Vaccinations

Eligibility:Infants under the age of one (the standard age for BCG vaccinations is five to seven months old)

Things to bring: Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Handbook, BCG vaccination coupon from the MCH Handbook voucher packet (please fill out and detach)

Please wait at least 28 days after your child receives a live vaccine, or 7 days after your child receives an inactive vaccine (such as DPT-IPV) before having BCG vaccinations.

Please go directly to the vaccination site. BCG vaccinations may be received at Ward Offices outside your ward of residence.
