Sendai World Festa 2019

Sendai World Festa held at the Sendai International Center is an event where citizens join together to create a space for learning and making friends while also providing a platform for citizen groups exchanges, international cooperation and the showcase of multicultural activities. This lively event also has many international residents of Sendai participate and volunteer though out this fun-filled day. Sendai World Festa is a day where you can get to experience cultures from all around the world.

Sendai Japanese Language Course is Recruiting Students

There are plenty of classes which are tailored to a variety of Japanese language abilities.

Course period: October 8 (Tue.) 2019- March 13 (Fri.) 2020

A placement test will be held on October 4 (Fri.) from 9:45 A.M. to determine students’ classes.

Classes: Tues.- Fri.

Venue: Aoba Chuo Shimin Center

Text book costs must be paid by students.

New National Health Insurance Cards

Sendai City will send out new National Health Insurance cards by the end of September by registered mail.

If your cardis delivered to you when you are not home, the post office will hold your mail. If you cannot collect it from the post office by the set date, please contact the following offices.

Sendai City Services and Transportation Fee Hike

In line with the tax hike (from 8% to 10%)implemented in October 2019, the base fare of Sendai City public services and utilities, including all forms of public transportation, handling fees etc. will be revised to reflect the 2% increase.

The following are all subject to the 2% fee hike:

Sendai Subway fares, City Bus fares, Gakuto Sendai Free Pass, Water, Sewerage and City Gas Fees etc.

The Deadline to Apply for Municipal Housing is September 16th

We use the Priority Point Systemin this application process. Residents are decided by descending order of priority points which are reflected by the applicant’s need for housing.

  • The Application Guide for Sendai City Municipal Housing will be available from September 6th(Fri.)at the following locations:

  • How to apply: Choose one municipal housing unit, fill out the application form attached to the application packet and send it in the provided envelope by post by September 16th. In the event that there are more applications than available housing, applications will be chosen by lottery.
  • Earliest move-in date: January 22, 2020 (Wed.) (tentative)

BCG Vaccinations

  • Eligibility:BCG vaccinations are given to children under the age of one (the standard age for BCG vaccinations is five to seven months old).
  • Things to bring: Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Handbook, BCG vaccination coupon from the MCH Handbook voucher packet (please fill out and detach).
  • Please wait at least 28 days after your child receives a live vaccine (such as polio) or seven days after your child receives an inactive vaccine (such as DPT-IPV) for BCG vaccinations.
