“Emergency Small Loans etc.” provided through the Social Welfare Loan System

Lending of Social welfare loans for households who have been forced to stop working or have lost their jobs and require and urgently or temporarily require funds to support their livelihoods will be available until the end of July.(Available hours: Weekdays 9:00a.m.–4:00p.m.)

Providing a Gift of Money for your Third Child or After When They Enter Elementary School

Eligibility: Guardians of children who just entered elementary school as of April 2020 (the child must be the third child or after) and also live in Sendai as of May 1st, 2020

  • Amount: 30,000 yen
  • Please look out for the announcement letter which will be distributed through elementary schools or contact the following office directly for more details.

Application: Please fill in the application form attached to the announcement letter (or download the application form from the City of Sendai website). It must arrive no later than May 31, 2020.

FY 2020 Inhabitant Tax (Exemption) Certificates (Income Certificates) to be Issued

Certificates are issued by the municipality in which you resided on January 1, 2020.

The issuing day for the FY 2020 is as follows.

For those who wish to have inhabitant taxes directly debited from their salary and those exempt from taxes.

Issuing place:

  • Ward Office starts from May 15th
  • Convenience store distribution starts from May 24th

For those who wish to pay inhabitant taxes after receiving the bill and those who wish to have it deducted from their pension fund.

  • Issuing of inhabitant tax certificates starts on June 12th at Ward Offices and convenience stores.

Declaration Form related to National Health Insurance Premiums to be Sent out

There is a system for the reduction of National Health Insurance premiums for households whose total income falls below a certain threshold. If your National Health Insurance premiums were reduced last fiscal year and Sendai City has not received your household’s total income for the last fiscal year (FY 2019) , a declaration form will be sent in mid-May that must be submitted by May 27th, 2020.

National Health Insurance Special Health Examination Vouchers to be Sent Out

Examination period: June 1 (Mon.)2020 to Sept. 30 (Wed.), Jan. 4 (Mon.), 2021-Jan 30 (Sat.) 2021

  • Eligibility: Persons aged 40 to 74 years old (as of Mar. 31, 2021) who are enrolled in National Health Insurance
  • Eligible persons will be sent examination vouchers in late May. Please take the examination at one of the listed registered health care institutes enclosed with the vouchers. 
  • Those who are enrolled in Medical Care System for elderly in the latter stage

or aged 35 to 39 years old (as of Mar. 31, 2021) can receive a basic health examination from July 1, 2020

Please don’t Forget to Enroll in the National Pension Program When you Leave your Job

You must enroll in the National Pension program if you are aged 20-59 years old, leave your job and as a result lose your qualification to receive employees’ pension or mutual aid pension. If you have a spouse who is your dependent, your spouse must also enroll in the National Pension Program.
