National Census to Begin

As of October 1, 2020, Japan will conduct a National Census, All people residing in Japan, regardless of nationality, are legally obliged to respond to the census. There are 16 questions in total, including questions regarding date of birth and occupation, and dwellings. The Census forms will be distributed by a visiting Census worker. If possible, please fill out your response online or if you are unable to complete it online please send it by post.

Flow of the Census

Distribution
Census Takers will visit each and every household and hand out the Census survey. The Census Taker will confirm the number of household members in the dwelling at the time of the survey’s distribution. If you are not home at the time visiting, the documents will be placed in your mailbox.
Distribution Period: Monday, September 14 -Wednesday, September 30, 2020

COVID-19 Testing for Pregnant Women in the Later Stage of the Third Trimester

We will be conducting COVID-19 tests for pregnant women in the late stages of the third trimester who wish to receive it, to alleviate stresses around contracting COVID-19. Please consult with an obstetric department of a medical facility, where childbirth is possible, that carries out testing to those who are interested.

• Eligibility= Those who are roughly 36 to 38 weeks pregnant and plan to give birth at a Miyagi prefecture medical facility.

Some Infants Health Check-up to be Held Separately

Dental health check-ups will be held separately at registered medical facilities for the “Dental Health Check-ups for Two-and-a-Half-Year Old Children” and “Health Check-ups for 3 year-old Children” which were suspended as a result of the novel coronavirus pandemic.
Additionally, separate “Health Check-ups for 18-month Old Children” observations by registered medical facility pediatricians will be held from mid-September.

New National Health Insurance Cards

Sendai City will send out new National Health Insurance cards by the end of September by registered mail.

If your card is delivered to you when you are not home, the post office will hold your mail. If you cannot collect it from the post office by the set date, please contact the following offices.

The Deadline to Apply for Municipal Housing is September 16th

We use the Priority Point System in this application process. Residents are decided by descending order of priority points which are reflected by the applicant’s need for housing.

• The Application Guide for Sendai City Municipal Housing will be available from September 4th (Fri.) at the following locations
  Application Section of Sendai City Construction Corporation, Sendai City Hall Kokubuncho Office 2F
  Shimin-no-heya, 1st Floor of Sendai City Hall
  Information desks of ward offices
  General branch offices
  Family Registration Section, Aoba Ward Office Sendai Station Service Center, (5th Floor of AER)
  Certificate Issuance Center
  Chuo Shimin Center of each ward
  Lifelong Learning Promotion Center etc.

• How to apply: Choose one municipal housing unit listed on the front page of the application form, fill out the application form attached to the application packet and send it in the provided envelope by post by September 16th. In the event that there are more applications than available housing, applications will be chosen by lottery.
• Earliest move-in date: January 22, 2021 (Fri.) (tentative)
  Eligible Applicants must fulfill all of the following conditions
  

1. Must currently be in great need of housing.
2. Have a family member whom are currently living with or are planning to live with.
3. You must be living in or commuting to Sendai.
