Please make your fourth Inhabitant Tax payment at your nearest financial institution by February1 (Mon.). If you pay by bank transfer, the transaction will be made on February 1.

Have you taken your Specified Health Check-up? 

The period for taking the National Health Insurance Specified Health Check-up ends on January 30 (Sat.). Please take your Specified Health Check-up as soon as possible.

Eligibility: Those who are enrolled in the National Health Insurance Scheme aged 40-74 years (as of March 31, 2021)

Things to bring: Check-up Coupon (have been sent out), Health Insurance Card

Please take your check-up at one of the designated medical institutions.

Those who have lost their National Health Insurance qualification at the time of consultation are not eligible.

If you do not have the Specified Health Check-up Coupon on hand, please bring your Health Insurance Card to the Ward Office of your residence or General Branch Office and complete reissuing procedures.

Have you Registered for National Health Insurance?

If you have withdrawn from employee health insurance due to retirement or loss of employment, you must register for National Health Insurance (unless you have opted to extend your health insurance or have become a dependent on a family member’s employee health insurance.) National Health Insurance premiums are charged from the month in which you withdrew from employee’s health insurance, so even if you delay in National Health Insurance Registration, you be charged retroactively.

If you have not yet registered, please do so as soon as possible at the National Health Insurance and Pension Section of your local ward office, the Miyagi General Branch Office, or the Public Health and Welfare Section of the Akiu General Branch Office.

Enrollment into the National Pension Scheme when turning 20

When a person turns 20 years old, they will receive a notification from the Japan Pension Service regarding “Notice of Enrollment into National Pension” informing them that they have been enrolled into the National Pension. The National Pension is not just for life post retirement, but also acts as a precautionary measure which entitles those who have become disabled to payments, and is paid to family members in the event that an enrolled person passes away. Please consult with us if you have difficulty paying premiums as there are reduction and exemption options available (income will be subject to screening).

Accepting Claims for Free Early Childhood Education and Care

To receive the Free Early Childhood Education and Care subsidy you must submit a claim to the City. Please complete the procedures if you are eligible.

Eligibility: those who have the new class 2 or 3 Childcare Certificate and are using a nursery school, extended childcare services at kindergarten or centers for early childhood education and care, unlicensed nurseries, temporary childcare services, childcare services for sick children, or Suku Suku Support Services.

Eligible period: October 1, 2020 - December 31, 2020

Payment date: January 20 (Wed.), 2021

Currently Taking Applications for Municipal Housing(for Single Parent Households or Households with Small Children) : Applications Accepted until January 16

Application Guides for Sendai City Municipal Housing are available from Wednesday, January 6 at the following locations:

  • Application Section of Sendai City Construction Corporation, Sendai City Hall Kokubuncho Building 2nd Floor
  • Shimin-no-Heya, Sendai City Hall 1st Floor
  • Information Desk of all ward offices
  • General Branch Offices
  • Family Registration Section of Sendai Station Service Center, Aoba Ward Office (5th Floor of AER)
  • Certificate Issuance Center
  • Chuo-Shimin Center in each ward
  • Lifelong Learning Promotion Center
  • Miyagi Housing Construction Center
  • Municipal Housing Management Office
  • How to apply: Choose one municipal housing unit from the table, fill out the application form attached to the application guide and mail it in the provided envelope by January 16 (Wed.). In the event that there are more applications than available housing, applications will be chosen by lottery
  • Earliest move-in date: March 23 (Tue.) (tentative)
  • Eligibility: Those who fulfill all of the following requirements – 1. Has a great need for housing. 2. The applicant is a single parent household supporting a dependent child/children aged less than 20 years old or a household with a preschooler (born after April 2, 2014.) 3. Have an address in or are working in Sendai City. There are also conditions in regards to income above a certain amount.

  • Applications from those who lost their houses in the Great East Japan Earthquake (special measure ends with this month’s application), Evacuees who resided in areas eligible for support based on the children and disaster victims support act, and those who are victims of DV or criminals are also accepted, but differ in requirements. Please inquire for further details.
