Preventing Frozen Water Pipes

Water pipes freeze with ease when temperatures drops 4 degrees below freezing point. Water will not run when pipes freeze over, thawing work by a contractor may ben ecessary, pipes may burst and you will be required to pay for repair works. Caution is advised particularly for exposed pipes and pipes that are in heavily shaded or windy areas. Please ensure that you take appropriate preventative measures listed below.

  • Check where the water mains and controls for your home are. There are two types of water mains, manual and automatic.
  • Make sure to drain your pipes when the temperature is expected to get low, and when away from home and not using water for more than one day.
  • Put Styrofoam insulation onto exposed pipes and meter boxes which are yet to be insulated.

Please consult when pipes have frozen or burst.
