Application method for Child Medical Expenses Subsidy will change

Child Medical Expenses Subsidy for dependents of National Health Insurance policy holders, will be required to submit the “Child Medical Expenses Subsidy Application” when they meet any of the following conditions below when visiting a medical institution from January.

  1. Visited a medical institution outside of Miyagi Prefecture
  2. Medical care certificate was not presented at the medical institution’s reception
  3. Visited a medical institution that is not covered by the Child Medical Expenses Subsidy
  4. Health Insurance card was not presented at time of visit
  5. When a therapeutic brace or fitting is made

Accepting Claims for Free Early Childhood Education and Care

To receive the Free Early Childhood Education and Care subsidy you must submit a claim to the City. Please complete the procedures if you are eligible.

  • Eligibility: Those who have the new class 2 or 3 Childcare Certificate and are using extended childcare services at kindergarten or centers for early childhood education and care, unlicensed daycare facilities, temporary childcare services, childcare services for sick children, or Sendai Sukusuku (“Healthy Growth”) Support Project.
  • Eligible period: October 1, 2021 - December 31, 2021
  • Payment date: January 20 (Thu.), 2022

Have you taken your Specified Health Check-up?

The period for taking the National Health Insurance Specified Health Check-up ends on January 31 (Mon.). Please take your Specified Health Check-up as soon as possible.

  • Eligibility: Those who are enrolled in the National Health Insurance Scheme aged 40-74 years (as of March 31, 2022)
  • Things to bring: Check-up Coupon (have been sent out), National Health Insurance Card
  • Please take your check-up at one of the designated medical institutions.
  • Those who have lost their National Health Insurance qualification at the time of consultation are not eligible.
  • If you do not have the Specified Health Check-up Coupon on hand, please bring your Health Insurance Card to the Ward Office of your residence or General Branch and complete reissuing procedures.

Enrollment into the National Pension System when turning 20

When a person turns 20 years old, they will receive a notification from the Japan Pension Service regarding “Notice of Enrollment into National Pension” informing them that they have been enrolled into the National Pension (excludes those who are already enrolled in Employees' Pension Insurance system). The National Pension is not just for life post retirement, but also acts as a precautionary measure which entitles payments to those who have become disabled, and in the event that an enrolled person passes away a payment is made to family members.
Please consult with us if you have difficulty paying premiums as there are reduction and exemption options available (income will be subject to screening).

Sending of notice of medical expenses for National Health Insurance

 The City of Sendai will send the notice listing the total medical expenditure paid between January and October of 2021 in January 2022; the total for November and December will be sent in March 2022.

  • The total amount of medical expenses paid is tax deductible, so please use the notice when filing a tax return.
  • This notice cannot be re-issued so please make sure to store the letter in a safe place.

(for Single Parent Households or Households with Small Children): Applications Accepted until January 16 

  • “Application Guides for Sendai City Municipal Housing” are available from January 6 (Thu.) at the following locations:

  • How to apply: Choose one municipal housing unit from the table, fill out the application form attached to the application guide and mail it in the provided envelope by January 16 (Sun.). In the event that there are more applications than available housing, applications will be chosen by lottery.
  • Earliest move-in date: March 25 (Fri.) (tentative)
  • Eligibility: Those who fulfill all of the following requirements
  1. Has a great need for housing.
  2. The applicant is a single parent household supporting a dependent child/children under 20 years old or a household with a preschooler (born after April 2, 2015.)
  3. Have an address in or are working in Sendai City. Additionally there are conditions such as having an income below a certain amount.

Applications from those whose residence was in an area under the evacuation orders placed after the 2011 nuclear disaster, evacuees who resided in areas eligible for support based on the children and disaster victims support act, and those who are victims of DV or criminals are also accepted, but differ in requirements. Please inquire for further details.
