Sendai City Bus & Subway Schedule during the Obon Period(August 14th – 16th)

  • Sendai City Bus: From August 14th(Wed.)to August 16th(Fri.), buses will run on the holiday schedule, and the number of buses on some routes will be increased during morning commuting hours.
  • Sendai City Subway: From August 13th(Tues.)to August 16th(Fri.), subway will run on Saturday/holiday schedule.

Don’t forget to apply for/renew your National Health Insurance/Medical Care System for the Elderly(75 and over)Reduction Certificate

If your household is exempt from municipal taxes, hospitalization and outpatient costs including co-pays and food costs can be reduced by presenting either the gendogaku tekiyo・hyojun futangaku gengaku ninteisho or the hyojun futangaku gengaku ninteisho reduction certificate together with your health insurance card at the reception desk of your medical institution. If you are eligible and do not yet have a certificate valid from this August, please apply now.

Eligibility: Members of households that are exempt from municipal taxes in FY 2013 and are enrolled in National Health Insurance or the Medical Care System for the Elderly(75 and over)

Don’t forget to submit documents for the Allowance for Child-Rearing and Special Allowance for Child-Rearing

Sendai City has sent documents for the Allowance for Child-Rearing to single-parent households with children under 18, and documents for the Special Allowance for Child-Rearing to households with children with disabilities to confirm whether they are eligible to receive these allowances. Please complete the documents and submit them in person(do not mail).

Free Hepatitis Screenings at Registered Medical Institutions

It is common for people who have contracted hepatitis viruses to not experience any symptoms. Hepatitis viruses may cause liver cancer or cirrhosis, so it is recommended to undergo blood screening for early detection and treatment.

  • Period=Until the end of March 2014
  • Eligibility=Those who have never received a hepatitis virus screening before.
  • Screening Virus=Hepatitis B & C Viruses
  • Things to Bring=Health Insurance Card

BCG Vaccinations

  • Eligibility: BCG vaccinations are given to children under one year old(standard age: five to seven months).
  • Things to bring: Mother and Child Health Handbook, BCG vaccination coupon from Mother and Child Health Handbook(fill out and detach)
  • Please wait at least 28 days after your child receives a live vaccine(such as polio)or seven days after your child receives an inactive vaccine(such as DPT)for BCG vaccinations.
