Public Affairs Section Extends Office Hours due to Season for Moving

The Public Affairs Section of each ward office will extend their office hours to 7:00 p.m. from the end of March through the beginning of April. Office hours will be extended to ease crowding in the office and to shorten waiting time due to the new fiscal year.

  • Period: Monday, March 25 - Monday, April 8(except Saturdays & Sundays)
  • Office hours: 8:30 a.m.- 7:00 p.m.
    (Please come earlier because it may take time to handle all the formalities.)

  • The office hour of the General Branch Offices: 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

FY2013 Water & Sewage Fee Reduction for Households on Welfare and Households on Welfare for Japanese War Orphans who Returned From China

  • Reduction Period:Reductions will begin from the month after the application form is received and will end in March 2014.
  • Amount of Reduction:You will be exempt from basic fees for water and all fees(basic and usage fees)for sewage.
  • If you apply to receive the reduction for the first time or you have been receiving the reduction but haven’t submitted the letter of consent, please bring your seal to the Public Assistance Section of each Ward Office to apply by March 31, 2013.
    ※Depending on the type of building you reside in, you may not be eligible for reductions.

The timetable for Sendai City Bus system will change from April 1.

Please check the new timetable at each bus stop or on the Transportation Bureau’s official website at http://www.kotsu.city.sendai.jp/ after March 25(Mon.).

Distribution of New Timetables

New timetables will be distributed at Transportation Bureau Ticket Centers, Bus business offices, and Information desks at each ward office from March 25(Mon.).

Applications to be accepted for Citizens Traffic Accident Insurance from March 1st.

This insurance will compensate you in the event that you are injured in a vehicle accident including bicycles accidents in Japan.

  • Eligibility: People who live in or commute to Sendai
  • Insurance Premium: 720 yen per unit(two units are available per person
    The maximum amount of compensation: 1,000,000 yen
  • Duration of the Insurance: April 1, 2013 – March 31, 2014

Information for Japanese Language Courses

Citizen volunteers provide Japanese language courses for foreign residents that wish to study Japanese. Speaking and understanding Japanese are important parts of living a safe and worry free life in Japan. Please be sure to share this information with anyone that maybe interested in these classes. More detailed information on the Japanese language courses is available on the Sendai International Relations Association’s Official Website (http://www.sira.or.jp) in English, Chinese and Korean.

Application Deadline for Municipal Housing is March 16, 2013

  • The application packet(nyuukyo boshuu no goannai)will be available from March 6th at the following locations:

  • How to apply: Fill out the application form attached to the application packet and mail it in the provided envelope by March 16th. In the event that there are more applications than available housing, applications will be chosen by lottery.
  • Earliest move-in date: May 24th(tentative)

    *In cases where vaccination before six months of age is deemed inadvisable due to fever or other medical reasons, Sendai City provides for free vaccinations up to one year of age.
  • Things to bring: Mother and Child Health Handbook, BCG vaccination coupon from the supplementary book of theMother and Child Health Handbook(fill out and detach)
  • Please wait 28 days after your child receives a live vaccine(polio or other)or seven days after your child receives an inactive vaccine(such as DPT)for BCG vaccinations.
