New National Health Insurance Cards

Sendai City will send new national health insurance cards to those insured during September by registered mail. If your card is delivered to you when you are not home, the post office will hold your mail. If you do not have it redelivered or collect it from the post office by the set date, you will need to go to the National Health Insurance and Pension Section of your local Word Office or the Miyagi General Branch Office, or the Health and Welfare Section of Akiu General Branch Office

Have you already applied for citizens’ health checkups?

Application is required to receive Sendai City’s various cancer screenings and basic health checkups. Applications for some of the checkups have a strict must arrive by deadline of September 30th. Application guides are now available at your local ward office or general branch office, and Shimin centers. These checkups are all recommend to be taken.

Influenza & Pneumococcal Vaccinations for the Elderly

Influenza Vaccination

  • Vaccination Period: Tuesday, October 1st to Tuesday, December 31st
  • Eligibility: Sendai Resident Card holders that, on the date of vaccination, are 65 years old and over, or, are aged between 60 and 65 and suffer from heart, kidney, or respiratory problems, or immune system problems due to HIV
  • Fee: 1,000 yen

Pneumococcal Vaccination

  • Vaccination Period: All year round
  • Eligibility: Sendai Resident Card holders that, on the date of vaccination, are aged 70 years old and over
  • Fee: 5,000 yen

The followings apply to both the Influenza and Pneumococcal Vaccinations:

  • Location: Any registered medical institution in Sendai that offers vaccinations(appointment may be required)
  • Those who are eligible for the Nuclear Accident Evacuees’ Special Law and evacuated from 13 cities, towns, and villages in Fukushima prefecture may receive vaccinations free of charge
  • Resident tax exempted households and households on welfare can receive vaccinations free of charge

Subsidies for adult rubella vaccination fees will become easier to obtain

Upon presenting your health insurance card or mother-child health book(in the case of husbands of pregnant women)at the reception desk of a cooperative medical institution, the vaccination can be received free of charge

  • Vaccination Period: Sunday, September 1st – Monday, March 31st 2014
  • Location: Cooperative medical institutions(Locations can be viewed on the Sendai City Official Website. Reservation required.)
  • Eligibility: Residence card holding women aged 19 to 49 who wish to get pregnant(vaccination cannot be given to those already pregnant)or spouses of pregnant women
  • This subsidy is also available for the combined measles/rubella vaccine
  • Those who have received the vaccinations between April 1st to August 31st can receive a refund if they apply. Please inquire for details.
