FY 2024 Payment of the Anti-inflation Emergency Support Benefit for Low-income Households and Additional Child Benefit

What is this benefit for?

Benefits will be provided to support low-income households that are particularly affected by price increases.

 

How much will eligible households receive?

FY 2024 Anti-inflation Emergency Support Benefit for Low-income Households

100,000 yen per household.

Additional Child Benefit

50,000 yen per child age 18 or younger.

 

Who is eligible to receive the benefit?

Households that fall under the following criteria are eligible to receive the benefit.

※However, households that are exempt from residence tax for FY 2023 or households that are only subject to per capita resident tax for FY 2023 are not eligible.

FY 2024 Anti-inflation Emergency Support Benefit for Low-income Child-rearing Households (100,000 yen per household)

Households whose members are all registered in the Sendai City Basic Resident Register as of June 3, 2024, who satisfy any of the following requirements 1~3.

  1. All household members are exempt from resident tax for FY2024 (including households on welfare) as of June 3, 2024.
  2. All household members are only subject to per capita resident tax for FY 2024.
  3. Household members only include those who are exempt from per capita resident tax and those who are only subject to per capita resident tax for FY2024.

※Households where all members are family employees of a blue return taxpayer etc, or so dependents of a person subject to resident tax in FY 2024 are not eligible.
※Households in which a member has filed a notification for exemption from resident tax under a tax convention are not eligible.

Additional Child Benefit (50,000 yen per child age 18 or younger)

Those who have dependent children under the age of 18 or younger and are amongst those eligible to receive the FY2024 Anti-inflation Emergency Support Benefit for Low-income Households.

 

How and when should eligible households apply for this benefit?

Eligible households will receive an envelope that looks like this.

1 Households that are registered in the Sendai City Basic Resident Register as of January 1, 2024

(1) Households that have registered a public funds receiving account or have an account that has received benefits for low-income households before

The "Notice of payment" will be sent by post to eligible households. The payment will be transferred to the account stated in the "Notice of payment", so no special application procedures are required. However, if you wish to change your account or want to decline the benefit, please contact the designated hotline 0120-000-483 by July 19, 2024 (Friday).

(2) Households other than “(1)”

The necessary application documents will be sent to eligible households by post. If you meet the eligibility criteria, fill in the necessary information and return the form by post to the City of Sendai. The application due date is October 31, 2024 (Thursday).

2 Households in which a member has moved to Sendai City on or after January 2, 2024

The relevant documents will be sent to all members. If you meet the eligibility criteria, please contact the dedicated hotline (0120-000-483). The application documents will be sent to you by post at a later date.

Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

1 I am a foreign national. Am I eligible to receive the benefit?

Foreign nationals may receive the benefit if they meet the criteria listed in “Who is eligible to receive this benefit?” However, the following individuals are not eligible: households composed of only dependents of a person subject to resident tax, or if any of household members are not subject to resident tax due to tax treaties.

2 How can I check my resident tax status?

If you are working, you can confirm your status using the Certificate of Tax Payment and Tax Exemption or other such certificates issued by the municipality in which you were living as of January 1, 2024. If you are still unsure, please call the designated hotline (0120-000-483).

3 I came to Sendai City from abroad on or after June 4, 2023. Am I still eligible to receive the benefit?

If you were not a registered resident of Sendai City as of June 3, 2023, you are not eligible for the benefit.

4 I don’t know how to fill in the Application Form. Can someone help me?

Please first refer to “How and when should eligible households apply for this benefit?” above. It provides instructions on how to fill in the form. If you are still unsure, please call the designated hotline (0120-000-483).

5 I can’t write in Japanese. Where can I go to seek assistance in filling in the application form?

Please visit the Emergency Support Benefit Center with someone who speaks Japanese. The center is located on the first floor of Tohoku Oji Fudosan Building, Kokubuncho 1-6-18, Aoba-ku, Sendai.

6 I am a victim of domestic violence and have fled to Sendai City, leaving my certificate of residence at my previous address. Am I eligible to receive the benefit?

You may or may not be eligible for the benefit. Please call the designated hotline (0120-000-483).

7 Can I make consultations about other matters besides the benefit in languages other than Japanese?

For foreign language consultations concerning daily living matters and other issues, please call the Sendai Multicultural Center.
