As a result of the disaster, about 1800 hectares of agricultural land in the eastern district were flooded by sea water, which made rice planting for this year difficult. However, as a result of the emergency repair of aqueducts and work to lower salinity, an area of approximately 400 hectares in Rokugo and Shichigo districts was planted. The rice planting started about two weeks later than previous years.
We anticipate the cropping season in autumn will become a beacon of hope towards the restoration of our verdant rural scenery.

Progress made in placing residents in emergency temporary housing

Temporary housing

In Sendai City, the construction of emergency temporary prefabricated houses started at the end of March and people started gradually moving into the houses at the end of April. In order to ensure that people will be able to live more comfortably, the temporary houses are equipped with various measures such as assembly spaces, flower gardens, ramps for wheelchairs, etc. In addition to prefabricated houses, a wide range of existing public houses and private apartments are also being used for emergency temporary housing.
