Announcement of the “FY2024 Emergency Support Benefit for Households exempt from Resident Tax” and “Additional Payment for Child-rearing Households exempt from Resident Tax”

What is this benefit for?

Benefits will be provided to support low-income households that are particularly affected by price increases.

 

How much will eligible households receive?

FY 2024 Emergency Support Benefit for Households exempt from Resident Tax

30,000 yen per household.

Additional Payment for Child-rearing Households exempt from Resident Tax

20,000 yen per child age 18 or younger.

 

Who is eligible to receive the benefit?

Households that meet the following criteria are eligible:

FY 2024 Emergency Support Benefit for Households exempt from Resident Tax

Households in which all members meet both of the following requirements (1) and (2).

(1) Registered in the Sendai City Basic Resident Register as of December 13, 2024.

(2) Exempt from resident tax for FY 2024 (including household member(s) receiving social welfare).

※Households in which all members are dependents of a person subject to resident tax for FY 2024, or are family employees working for a household member subject to resident tax, are not eligible to receive the benefit.

※Households in which any member is exempted from resident tax under tax conventions are not eligible.

Additional Payment for Child-rearing Households exempt from Resident Tax

Households eligible to receive the FY 2024 Emergency Support Benefit for Households exempt from Resident Tax that have dependent children ages 18 or younger (Children born on April 2, 2006 or onwards)

 

How and when should eligible households apply for this benefit?

1 Households that are registered in the Sendai City Basic Resident Register as of January 1, 2024

Eligible households will receive an envelope that looks like this.

(1) Households that have registered a public funds receiving account or an account to received benefits for low-income households before

The "Notice of payment" will be mailed to eligible households by the City.

No special application procedures are required.

If you wish to change your account or want to decline to receive the benefit, please contact the designated hotline 0120-000-483 by February 18, 2025 (Tuesday).

(2) Households other than “(1)”

The necessary application documents will be mailed to eligible households by the City.

Those who meet the eligibility criteria and recived the document, please fill in the necessary information and return the form by post to the City of Sendai.

The application deadline is June 2, 2025 (Monday).

※Details on applying for the Additional Child Benefit can be found via the 2D barcode printed on the document you received.

2 Households in which a member has moved to Sendai City on or after January 2, 2024

The announcement of benefit will be sent.

 Those who meet the eligibility criteria, please contact the hotline (0120-000-483). The application documents will be sent by post at a later date.

Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

1 I am a foreign national. Am I eligible to receive the benefit?

Foreign nationals may receive the benefit if they meet the criteria listed in “Who is eligible to receive this benefit?” However, the following individuals are not eligible: households composed of only dependents of a person subject to resident tax, or if any of household members are not subject to resident tax due to tax treaties.

2 How do I know if my household is exempt from resident tax or not?

If you are employed, your status can be confirmed on the certificate of income and withholding tax that you receive from your workplace. If you are still unsure, please call the hotline (0120-000-483).

3 I moved to Sendai City from abroad on or after December 14, 2024. Am I still eligible to receive the benefit?

If you were not a registered resident of Sendai City as of December 13, 2024, you are not eligible for the benefit.

4 I don’t know how to fill in the Application Form. Can someone help me?

Please first refer to “How and when should eligible households apply for this benefit?” above. It provides instructions on how to fill in the form. If you are still unsure, please call the hotline (0120-000-483).

5 I can’t write in Japanese. Where can I go to seek assistance in filling in the application form?

Please visit the Emergency Support Benefit Center with someone who speaks Japanese.

The center is located on the first floor of Tohoku Oji Fudosan Building, Kokubuncho 1-6-18, Aoba-ku, Sendai.

6 I am a victim of domestic violence and have fled to Sendai City, leaving my certificate of residence at my previous address. Am I eligible to receive the benefit?

You may or may not be eligible for the benefit. Please call the hotline (0120-000-483).

7 Can I make consultations about other matters besides the benefit in languages other than Japanese?

For foreign language consultations concerning daily living matters and other issues, please call the Sendai Multicultural Center.
