Information about Tuition Support Loan for High School and other Educational Institutions

Borrowers of the Japan Finance Corporation Educational General Finance Loans (National Education Loan), may have the interest on borrowing that was paid during the student's enrollment in an educational institution (high school, vocational school, etc.) subsidized. 

  • Application Period: Until December 8 (Fri.)
  • Eligibility: Guardians of students enrolled in high schools or other educational institutions, who are living in Sendai City.
  • Conditions: Complete/Full payment of Inhabitant taxes, etc.

AIDS, Syphilis and Chlamydia Testing

  • Anonymous testing available.
  • Reservation required.
  • How to apply:
    Reservations can be made by calling the dedicated reservation line (TEL: 090-4478-4641), between 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on weekdays, from approximately one month before the testing date up until the day before the testing, or from the official website of the City of Sendai.

1) Night-time AIDS, Syphilis and Chlamydia Testing:

Date: December 7 (Thu) 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Venue: Aoba Ward Office

The test taker will be directly informed of the results at a later date.

2) Holidays Rapid Testing of AIDS and Syphilis:

Date: December 2 (Sat) 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. 

Venue: Health Consultation Office of Koseikan (1-1-5, Miyamachi, Aoba-ku)

3) Night-time Rapid Testing of AIDS and Syphilis:

Date: December 8 (Fri) and 22 (Fri) 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. 

Venue: 6F of AER 

The test taker will be directly informed of the results of 2) & 3) about one hour after blood samples have been taken. (In the case of indeterminate results, the test taker will be notified of the results at a later date.)

Capacity: Testing service 1) is limited to approximately 25 people, and 2) & 3) are limited to approximately 30 people, all on a first-come-first-served basis.

Beware of Norovirus 

Winter is the peak outbreak season for norovirus. Please make sure to take appropriate prevention measures such as washing hands before handling food and cooking and heating food thoroughly before eating. 
Pamphlets on how to prevent getting sick at home are being distributed at the Administration Section or Public Health and Sanitation Section of the Public Health and Welfare Center of Ward Offices

Don't forget to Apply for the Citizen's Health Check

Applications for city-organized Citizen's Health Check-ups for the following must be sent in by November 30 (Thu): Additional applications for basic check-ups and screenings for stomach cancer, uterine cervical cancer, breast cancer, and colon cancer. (Applications for screening of lung cancer, tuberculosis check-up, and prostate cancer are already closed.)The application guide is distributed at Ward Offices, General Branches, etc. Applications can also be completed on the official website of the City of Sendai. If you already have a ticket for a check-up, please do NOT forget to attend the health check.

Please Use Bank Transfer for Paying the National Health Insurance Premiums

You can apply for bank account transfer to pay the National Health Insurance Premiums via the internet on a computer or smartphone. (This online service is called “Web口座振替受付サービス ” and is available only in Japanese). This service does not require you to fill out a bank transfer request form or have your registered seal, and it also saves your time as there is no need to send application documents by post or bring them to a service counter directly. We hope you will find this service useful.

Accepting Applications for Children's Club Members for FY 2024

The goal of the Children's Club is to encourage the healthy development of children through various activities and games at Children's Centers for first to sixth graders whose guardians are unable to take care of them after school due to work or other reasons.

  • Eligible Children: First to sixth graders (however, said children must be able to go to and from the centers by themselves and take care of themselves) and are also attending school in Sendai City.
  • Fee: 3,000 yen per month (fee reduction scheme available) 
    If you were to use the extended hours service (6:00 p.m. to 7:15 p.m.), there will be an extra 1,000 yen charge per month. Please note that you may also be asked to pay for snack and activity fees at some centers.
  • Application Period: November 20, 2023 to December 9, 2023
     *excluding Sundays and (National) holidays
    9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. (9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. on Saturdays) 
  • How to Apply: Please go directly to the Children's Center where you would like your child to register at. 
  • Application forms are distributed at each Children's Center starting from November 1, and can also be downloaded from the official website of the City of Sendai.
  • Documents such as the certificate of employment of the guardian, etc., is required when submitting an application.
  • Please note that an application may be declined if there the number of applications received is more than the number of vacancy at a facility.
  • Children's Club may be held at locations other than Children's Centers. 
  • If there are still vacancies after the end of the application period, applications will continue to be accepted.
