“What if our cats could talk like humans?”
Have you ever imagined such a thing?
This exhibition introduces ukiyo-e prints and illustrated books from the Edo to Meiji periods, focusing on the works of Utagawa Kuniyoshi—an ukiyo-e artist well known for his deep love of cats. It shows his charming portrayals of anthropomorphized cats, as well as humans depicted with cat-like features.
Please enjoy these unique works of anthropomorphism.

Buddhist art has long served as a source of spiritual comfort for people throughout history.
The Buddhist paintings featured in this exhibition―long admired for the dignity of the deities they portray and for their artistic beauty―have been carefully preserved and handed down through generations.
This exhibition presents outstanding examples of Buddhist paintings from the Tohoku region, along with works newly brought to light through recent research. We hope visitors will gain a deeper understanding of the history and breadth of Buddhist painting and enjoy exploring the rich world it reveals.

What was human life like from around 40,000 years ago―overlapping with the Paleolithic era―through the coldest period of the Ice Age roughly 20,000 years ago?
How did humans evolve as they adapted to the harsh natural environment of the glacial period?
This exhibition introduces the world in which humans lived during the Ice Age, exploring themes such as their interactions with now-extinct large animals, as well as the culture and tools they developed. Through these perspectives, we hope to show how people lived, adapted, and moved forward while facing a period of climate change.
