Check“Sendai Disaster Risk Reduction Hazard Map” to Prepare for Heavy Rainfall and Landslide

The hazard map, which highlights areas vulnerable to landslide and flood inundation areas, is currently being made. Please make the most out of the useful information related to disaster risk reduction included in this map such as “My Timeline,” which can be created ahead of time and personalized as your own evacuation plan according to your family structure, living environment, etc.

“Sendai Disaster Risk Reduction Hazard Map” FY 2025 edition (as of May 2025) will be available from August 15 (Fri) on the official website of the City of Sendai. It will also be distributed at the City Information Center at Sendai City Hall (2F), Information Desk of each ward office, general branches, and Shimin (Civic) Centers.

The Day Care for All Children System (Support project to enroll infants and toddlers in childcare facilities) is in service.

Regardless of the working status of guardians, everyone can use this new system to enroll their child in childcare facilities for up to 10 hours per month; this service also provides advice to guardians for child-rearing concerns while supporting children’s growth by providing the opportunity of being in a group environment.

  • Term of use: From August 1 (Fri), 2025 to March 31 (Tue), 2026 (Some facilities began providing this service in April 2025)
  • Eligibility: Children living in Sendai City who are from the age of 6 months up to two years old and are not enrolled in any childcare facilities such as nursery schools 
  • Service fees: 300 yen per hour per child (Free of charge for households on social welfare and those exempted from the residential tax) *Users must bear the expenses designated by each facility such as lunch fees.
  • If there is a vacancy, it is possible to start using the service during the middle of the term.

Notice of the Nationwide J-ALERT Information Transmission Test

The central government will carry out a nationwide simultaneous information transmission test using the J-ALERT
system at 11:00 a.m. on August 20 (Wed), 2025, based on preparation for the occurrence of earthquakes, tsunamis, 
and armed attacks, etc.
On the day of the test, test messages will be displayed on the official website of the City of Sendai, the official LINE account of the City of Sendai, and the X (formerly Twitter) account of Sendai City Crisis Management Bureau. Test announcements will also be broadcasted using outdoor speaker installations set up in the eastern part of Sendai City. Please note of this in advance.

Inhabitant Tax Payments are Due on September 1 (Mon)

Please make the second Inhabitant Tax payment for FY 2025 by September 1 (Mon) at a financial institution nearby. For those paying by bank transfer, the transaction will be made on September 1 (Mon).

Consultations for Starting a Business

  1. Consultations for matters related to starting a business
    Date and time: August 20 (Wed) 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
    Who it is for: Those who are considering starting a business in Miyagi Prefecture or have just started a business. Limited to the first 30 applicants. 
  2. Consultation for Foreign Entrepreneurs
    Date and time: August 21 (Thu) 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
    Who it is for: Foreign residents, including international students, who are interested in starting a business in Sendai City or have been operating a business for approximately 5 years or less. Limited to the first 10 applicants.
  • Venue: AER Building 7F
  • Content: Individual consultations with relevant experts on starting/running a business.
  • How to apply: Apply via the website of the Sendai City Entrepreneurship Support Center starting from 9:00 a.m. on August 6. Application for 1 by phone is also accepted.

AIDS and Syphillis Rapid Testing

  • Reservation required
  • How to apply:
    Reservations can be made by calling the dedicated reservation line (TEL: 090-4478-4641), between 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays, from two weeks before the testing date up until the day before the testing, or from the official website of the City of Sendai.
  1. Night-time Rapid Testing of AIDS and Syphilis: 
    Date and time: August 22 (Fri) and September 12 (Fri), 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Venue: 6F of AER
  2. Holiday Rapid Testing of AIDS and Syphilis
    Date and time: September 6 (Sat), 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. Venue: Health Consultation Office of Koseikan (1-1-5, Miyamachi, Aoba-ku)

Capacity: approximately 30 people each(first-come first-served)
The test taker will be directly informed of the results about one hour after blood samples have been taken. (In the case of indeterminate results, the test taker will be notified of the results at a later date.)

Do Not Forget to Submit Forms: Present Condition Form for the Child-rearing Allowance or Income Situation Form for Special Child-rearing Allowance

The City of Sendai will send out required documents for the Child-rearing Allowance to single-parent households with children under 18 years of age, as well as those for the Special Child-rearing Allowance to households with children with disabilities under 20 years of age to confirm whether households are eligible to receive these allowances. Please complete the forms and submit them in person.

Beware of Vibrio parahaemolyticus Seafood Poisoning

Risk of contracting food poisoning increases in summer, as bacteria causing food-borne illnesses grows faster in warm environment. Please be especially careful when handling and consuming fish and shellfish. Here are three precautionary measures to prevent food poisoning:

  • Store food in the refrigerator
  • Rinse food thoroughly with tap water 
  • Consume food promptly after cooking
