Municipal tax certificates (fee required), including Inhabitant Tax Certificates and Inhabitant Tax Exemption Certificates, are issued at ward offices, general branches, Certificate Issuance Centers, and the Sendai Station Service Center (AER Building 5F).
The issuance schedule for FY 2026 certificates is as follows:
- Inhabitant Tax Taxation Certificate (for those whose tax is withheld from their salary) and Inhabitant Tax Exemption Certificate: Available from mid-May
- Inhabitant Tax Taxation Certificate (for those who pay by tax payment notification slips or whose tax is withheld from pension): Available from mid-June
Please note: Some certificates cannot be issued by Certificate Issuance Centers or the Sendai Station Service Center. Please check in advance whether the certificate you need is available.

Have you paid all your taxes for FY2025? If you are having difficulty making your payments, please contact the appropriate office as soon as possible.

The City provides financial assistance to help cover part of the costs for school supplies, school lunches, and other expenses. This assistance is available to parents and guardians of students attending elementary or junior high schools in Sendai, as well as the lower secondary curriculum of Sendai Seiryo Secondary School, who are experiencing financial hardship.
How to apply: Please contact your child’s municipal elementary school, junior high school or Sendai Seiryo Secondary School, or apply through the official website of the City of Sendai.

The deadline for the first application period for receiving the basic health check and cancer screenings provided by the City of Sendai is April 24 (Fri), 2026.
The application guide is available at ward offices, general branches, and Shimin (Civic) Centers. Applications can also be submitted through the official website of the City of Sendai.

Due to a partial amendment of the law, the payment amounts have been revised starting in April 2026.
Child-rearing Allowance (paid in May)

Beginning April 1, the maximum eligible age for the Child Medical Expense Subsidy will be increased.
Medical expenses will be free for children up to the end of the fiscal year in which they turn 18 (equivalent to the third year of senior high school).
Please note that medical services not covered by health insurance are not eligible for this subsidy.

The Children and Child-rearing Support Contribution System is a new framework in which all generations and businesses contribute financially to support children and child rearing households across society.
The contributions will be collected along with the health insurance premiums to which you are currently enrolled.
Notifications of National Health Insurance premium amounts will be sent in mid-June, and notifications of Medical Insurance for the Elderly premiums will be sent in mid-July .

You will be exempt from National Pension contributions for a period of four months, starting from either the month before the expected delivery month or the actual delivery month. In the case of multiple pregnancies, the exemption period is six months, starting from three months before the expected delivery month or the delivery month.
Notifications can be submitted from six months prior to the expected delivery date. Notifications may also be submitted after childbirth, and there is no submission deadline. You can also submit the notification online through the Myna Portal. For more details, please refer to the official website of the City of Sendai.

If you are having difficulty paying National Pension contributions, you may apply retroactively for an exemption, payment postponement, or the student payment exemption for up to two years and one month before the month in which you apply.
If your application is approved, you will be granted an exemption from or postponement of National Pension contributions.

If you were enrolled in National Health Insurance but have since become employed and are now covered by employees' health insurance, or have become a dependent under a family member's health insurance, please visit the ward office or general branch of your area and submit a Loss of Qualification Form as soon as you receive your eligibility certificate or notification of eligibility. You can submit the form by mail or online through the official website of the City of Sendai.
Please note that your National Health Insurance Eligibility Certificate becomes invalid on the day you enroll in employees' health insurance.

This program allows children to attend daycare facilities regardless of their guardians’ employment status or other requirements. By using daycare facilities for up to 10 hours per month, the program supports children’s development through group activities and provides advice to parents and guardians on child-rearing concerns.
