Inhabitant Tax Payments are due on August 31 (Mon).

Please make your second Inhabitant Tax payment for FY 2026 at your nearest financial institution by August 31 (Mon). If you are paying via bank transfer, the transaction will also be made on August 31 (Mon).

Notice of the Nationwide J-ALERT Information Transmission Test

The central government will carry out a nationwide simultaneous information transmission test using the J-ALERT system, which is used for nationwide alerts involving earthquakes, tsunamis, armed attacks, etc., at 11:00 a.m. on August 26 (Wed), 2026. 
On the day of the test, test messages will be broadcasted on the Sendai City website, the official LINE account of the City of Sendai, and the X (formerly Twitter) account of the Sendai City Crisis Management Bureau. Test announcements will also be broadcasted through outdoor speaker installations set up in the eastern part of Sendai City. Please take note of this in advance.
This test may be canceled or postponed due to natural disasters or other circumstances.

Enrollment for First- and Second-Year Students in the Evening Classes at Sendai Municipal Minami-Koizumi Junior High School (October 2026 Admission)

  • Eligibility: Residents of Miyagi Prefecture who meet any of the following conditions: 
  1. Individuals who have passed the compulsory school age without completing compulsory education
  2. Individuals who graduated from junior high school but were unable to receive sufficient education due to school non-attendance or other circumstances
  3. Foreign nationals who have passed the compulsory school age without completing compulsory education in their home country or in Japan

How to apply: Please download the application form from the Sendai City website and submit it by September 17, 2026 (must arrive by this time). 

Please note that enrollment information sessions will be held as follows: 

  • Date and Time: September 1, 2026 (Tue) 5:45 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
  • Venue: Sendai Municipal Minami-Koizumi Junior High School
  • Eligibility: Individuals who wish to enroll in the evening classes beginning in October 2026, and their family members or other interested persons
  • How to apply: Apply by phone or through the Sendai City website by August 26, 2026.

Consultations for Starting a Business

(1) Consultations for matters related to starting a business
Date and time: August 19 (Wed) 9:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. 
Who it is for: Those who are considering starting a business in Miyagi Prefecture or have just started a business. (Limited to the first 30 applicants.) 
(2) Consultations for Foreign Entrepreneurs
Date and time: August 27 (Thu) 9:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Who it is for: Foreign residents, including international students, who are interested in starting a business in Sendai City or have been running a business for approximately 5 years or less. (Limited to the first 10 applicants.)

  • Venue: AER Building 7F
  • Contents: Individual consultations with relevant experts on starting/running a business
  • How to apply: Apply through the Sendai City Entrepreneurship Support Center website from 9:00 a.m. on August 6. Applications for item (1) are also accepted by phone or email (Please include any relevant information and details related to your inquiry).

Do Not Forget to Submit Your Child-Rearing Allowance Status Report and Special Child-Rearing Allowance Income Report

Required documents will be sent to recipients of the Child-rearing Allowance for single-parent households raising children under 18 years of age, and to recipients of the Special Child-rearing Allowance for households raising children with disabilities under 20 years of age. Please be sure to complete and submit the required documents so that your eligibility for these allowances can be confirmed.

    [Special Child-rearing Allowance] August 12 (Wed) - September 11(Fri), 2026 
    (Submissions are accepted only on business days.)

Beware of Vibrio Parahaemolyticus Food Poisoning from Seafood

Food poisoning is more common in summer because foodborne bacteria multiply more easily in warm weather. Please take extra care when handling seafood.
To help prevent food poisoning:

  • Keep seafood refrigerated.
  • Wash seafood thoroughly with tap water.
  • Eat it as soon as possible after cooking.

Rapid HIV/AIDS and Syphilis Testing

  • Reservation required
  • How to apply:
    Reservations can be made by calling the dedicated reservation line (TEL: 090-4478-4641), between 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on weekdays, from two weeks before the testing date until the day before the test. Reservations can also be made through the Sendai City website.
    (1) Evening testing: 
    Date and time: August 28 (Fri) and September 11 (Fri) 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.  
    Venue: AER Building 6F 
    (2) Weekend testing:
    Date and time: September 5 (Sat) 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. 
    Venue: Health Consultation Office of Koseikan (1-1-5, Miyamachi, Aoba-ku)

Capacity: Approximately 30 people per session (first come, first served)
Test results will be available approximately one hour after the blood sample is taken.
If the results are inconclusive, you will be notified at a later date.
