Multilingual Hazard Map App
The City of Sendai has begun operations of “Multilingual Hazard Map App” that you can get information about disaster risks and evacuation site by audio guidance of smartphones and tablets. Anyone, including visually impaired persons and foreign nationals, be able to easily access disaster information with “Uni-Voice Blind” app, to ensure the proper evacuation. This app supports multilingual display and text-to-speech, for instance, English, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, and Nepali. Notice of the Nationwide J-ALERT Information Transmission Test
The central government will carry out a nationwide simultaneous information transmission test using the J-ALERT system at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 12, based on preparation for the occurrence of earthquakes, tsunamis, and armed attacks, etc.
On the day of the test, test messages will be displayed on the official website of the City of Sendai, the official LINE account of the City of Sendai, and the X (formerly Twitter) account of Sendai City Crisis Management Bureau. Test announcements will also be broadcasted using outdoor speaker installations set up in the eastern part of Sendai City. Please note of this in advance.

Information about Tuition Support Loan for High School and Other Educational Institutions
Borrowers of the Japan Finance Corporation Educational General Finance Loans (National Education Loan) may have the interest on borrowing that was paid during the student's enrollment in an educational institution (high school, and vocational school, etc.) subsidized.

- Eligibility: Guardians of students enrolled in high schools or other educational institutions, who are living in Sendai City

Recruiting Students for Evening Classes at Sendai Municipal Minami-Koizumi Junior High School (Starting in April 2026)
- Eligibility: Miyagi residents who meet any of the following conditions:
(1) Japanese residents who are over school age without completing compulsory education
(2) Japanese residents who were graduated from junior high school, but not receive adequate education
(3) Foreign residents who are over school age without completing compulsory education in and outside Japan
How to apply: Please download the application form from the official website of the City of Sendai and send the necessary items by January 30, 2026.

Reservations can be made by calling the dedicated reservation line (TEL: 090-4478-4641), between 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays, from two weeks before the testing date up until the day before the testing, or from the official website of the City of Sendai.

Don't Forget to Apply for the Citizen's Health Check
Applications for city-organized Citizen's Health Check-ups for the following must be sent in by Friday, November 28: Additional applications for basic check-ups and screenings for stomach cancer, uterine cervical cancer, breast cancer, and colon cancer. (Applications for screening of lung cancer, tuberculosis check-up, and prostate cancer have already ended). The application guide is distributed at ward offices and General Branches. Applications can also be completed on the official website of the City of Sendai.For further information, please contact the section in charge of ward offices or general branches. If you already have a ticket for a check-up, please do NOT forget to attend the health check.

Beware of Norovirus
Winter is the peak outbreak season for norovirus. Please make sure to take appropriate prevention measures such as washing hands before handling food and cooking and heating food thoroughly before eating.
Pamphlets on how to prevent getting sick at home are being distributed at the Administration Section or Public Health and Sanitation Section of the Public Health and Welfare Center of ward offices.

Accepting Applications for Children's Club Members for FY 2026
The goal of the Children's Club is to encourage the healthy development of children through various activities and games at Children's Centers for first to sixth graders whose guardians (including relatives living at the same address who are under the age of 65) are unable to take care of them after school due to work or other reasons.
- Eligible Children: First to sixth graders (however, said children must be able to go to and from the centers by themselves and take care of themselves) and are also attending school in Sendai City.
- Fee: 3,000 yen per month (fee reduction scheme available)
If you were to use the extended hours service (6:00 p.m. to 7:15 p.m.), there will be an extra 1,000 yen charge per month. Please note that you may also be asked to pay for snack and activity fees at some centers.
- Application Period: November 17 to December 6 (excluding Sundays and (National) holidays)
9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturdays)
- How to Apply: Please go directly to the Children's Center where you would like your child to register at.
- Application forms are distributed at each Children's Center and can also be downloaded from the official website of the City of Sendai.
- If you would like your child to send to the Children’s Club only during the long vacation such as summer vacation, please apply to the Children’s Center within the application period as well.
- Documents such as the certificate of employment of the guardian is required when submitting an application.
- Children's Club may be held at locations other than Children's Centers.
- After the end of the application period, applications will continue to be accepted as needed.
