Large Quantities of Waste When Moving House

You can NOT place bulk waste or large amounts of waste at regular waste collection points.
Please dispose of them using one of the methods below (fees required). However, four types of home appliances – air conditioners, TVs, refrigerators/freezers, and washing machines/dryers – as well as PCs and similar devices are NOT collected by the City. For details on how to dispose of these items, please refer to the official website of the City of Sendai or contact the numbers below.

  1. Apply for bulky waste collection (collected about once every two weeks)
    Over-the-phone application: Call the Bulky Waste Reception Center for pickup (application required) TEL: 022-716-5301
    You can also apply via the official website of the City of Sendai.
  2. Apply for large quantity of waste collection (Including bulky waste)
    Over-the-phone application: Call the collection office of the ward in which you reside (application required). 
    (If you live within the jurisdiction of the Miyagi or Akiu General Branch Office, please contact the Miyagi Eisei Kankyo Kosha at 022-393-2216.)
  3. Bring waste in yourself

Service Counter for Moving In/Out Notifications and Medical Expenses Subsidies Procedures

  • Moving In/Out Notification: 
    Family and Resident Registration Section of each ward office, Taxation and Resident Registration Section of Miyagi General Branch, General Affairs Section of Akiu General Branch, and Family and Resident Registration Section of the Sendai Station Service Center, Aoba Ward Office (5th Floor of AER Building, only for those whose new or previous address is/was in Aoba Ward)
  • Applying for Child/Single-parent Household Medical Expenses Subsidies, Child Allowance: 
    Childcare and Benefit Section of each ward office, Public Health and Welfare Section of each general branch
  • Medical Expenses Subsidy for Mentally or Physically Disabled Persons: 
    Disabled and Senior Citizens Welfare Section of each ward office and Miyagi General Branch, Public Health and Welfare Section of Akiu General Branch
  • Motorized Bicycles (vehicles such as motorcycles with 125cc or less): 
    Taxation and Accounting Section of each ward office, Taxation and Resident Registration Section of Miyagi General Branch, and General Affairs Section of Akiu General Branch

Ward Office Counters also Open on Weekends and Extend Weekday Hours to 6:00 p.m. During Peak Moving Season

(1) Weekend Counter Service

  • Dates: March 22 (Sun), 29 (Sun), April 4 (Sat) 
  • Hours: 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
  • Offices: Family and Resident Registration Section of each ward office

Notes:
- General branches will not be open on weekends.
- The section of the Sendai Station Service Center, Aoba Ward Office (5th Floor of AER Building) only provides certificate-issuing services. (Hours: 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Please be aware that it will be closed on March 22 (Sun).)

(2) Weekday Extended Hours

  • Dates: March 23 (Mon) - April 3 (Fri) (Weekdays only)
  • Hours: 8:30 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. (General branch offices are open until 5:00 p.m. as usual.)
  • Offices: Family and Resident Registration Section of each ward office, Family and Resident Registration Section of the Sendai Station Service Center, Aoba Ward Office (5th Floor of AER Building. Moving In/Out Notifications are available to individuals whose new or former address is in Aoba Ward.)

Notes: 
- The busiest time is from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Heavy congestion is expected especially on March 23 (Mon), 27 (Fri), 30 (Mon), 31 (Tue), April 1 (Wed) and 3 (Fri).
- You can check the current number of people waiting and numbers being called at the Family and Resident Registration Section of each ward office through the Sendai City website or official Sendai City LINE account.

(3)Available procedures (Limited to notifications regarding change of address): 

  • Reception of Moving In/Out Notifications, Notifications of Change of Address for National Health Insurance, National Pension, or Long-term Care Insurance
  • Designation of schools for students who have transferred
  • Issuing Resident Records, Certificates of Family Register, and Seal Registration Certificates, etc.

Notice on City Bus Services

  • The schedule for Sendai City Buses will change on April 1.
    The new timetable will be available on the official website of the Sendai City Transportation Bureau from March 18 (Wed). Timetables can also be sent by fax or postal mail upon request. For more details, please inquire at the Transportation Bureau Information Center.

Water & Sewerage Fee Reduction and Exemption for Households Receiving Welfare or Support Benefits

  • Reduction/exemption period: Starting from the month following application until March 2027
  • Eligibility: 
    - Households receiving welfare
    - Households receiving support benefits for Remaining Japanese in China, etc.
  • Amount of reduction/exemption: 
    - Water charges: Basic fee 
    - Sewerage charges: full amount
  • If you are applying to receive the reduction or exemption for the first time, or if you are currently receiving it but have not yet submitted the consent form, please apply at the Welfare Section of your ward office or Miyagi General Branch where you receive benefits.
  • Depending on the building and/or water usage, you may not be eligible for the reduction or exemption.
