Check“Sendai Disaster Risk Reduction Hazard Map” to Prepare for Heavy Rainfall and Landslide

The hazard map, which highlights areas vulnerable to landslide and flood inundation areas, is published in “Sendai Disaster Risk Reduction Hazard Map”. 
 You can also find useful information related to disaster risk reduction in this publication:

  • “Evacuation decision flowchart” provides guidance on evacuation decision making, including whether to avoid danger by staying at home or moving to a safer place. 
  • “My Timeline”is an evacuation plan that can be made ahead of time and personalized according to family structure, living environment, etc. 

“Sendai Disaster Risk Reduction Hazard Map” FY 2024 edition (as of May 2024) will be available from August 16 (Fri) on the official website of the City of Sendai. It will also be distributed at the City Information Center at Sendai City Hall (2F), Information Desk of each ward office, general branches, and Shimin (Civic) Centers.

Notice of the Nationwide J-ALERT Information Transmission Test

The central government will carry out a nationwide simultaneous information transmission test using the J-ALERT system at 11:00 a.m. on August 28 (Wed), 2024, based on preparation for the occurrence of earthquakes, tsunamis, and armed attacks, etc.
On the day of the test, test messages will be broadcasted on the official website of the City of Sendai, the official LINE account of the City of Sendai, and the X (formerly Twitter) account of Sendai City Crisis Management Bureau. Test announcements will also be broadcasted using outdoor speaker installations set up in the eastern part of Sendai City. Please note of this in advance.

Inhabitant Tax Payments are Due on September 2 (Mon)

Please make the second Inhabitant Tax payment for FY 2024 by September 2 (Mon). For those paying by bank transfer, the transaction will be made on September 2 (Mon).

Beware of Vibrio parahaemolyticus Seafood Poisoning

 Risk of contracting food poisoning increases in summer, as bacteria causing food-borne illnesses grows faster in warm environment. Please be especially careful when handling and consuming fish and shellfish. Here are three precautionary measures to prevent food poisoning:

  • Store food in the refrigerator
  • Rinse food thoroughly with tap water 
  • Consume food promptly after cooking

Notice Regarding Revision of the FY 2024 Child Allowance System

The child allowance system will be expanded starting with the allowance paid in December 2024 (October and November payments)

  • Details of the system revision
  1. The eligibility period for the allowance will be extended to the first March 31 after the child turns 18 years old 
  2. The income limit will be removed so that all households with eligible children will be able to receive the allowance regardless of their income amount
  3. The monthly amount of the allowance for the third child and subsequent children will increase from \15,000 to \30,000 per child 
  4. The eligibility period for additional allowance for the third child and subsequent children will be extended to the first March 31 after the child turns 22 years old (Currently the allowance is paid up until the first March 31 after the child turns 18 years old)
  5. The number of the payments will change from the current three times a year to six times a year (the allowance will be paid in even-numbered months)
  • Individuals who meet any of conditions (1)-(4) may be eligible for Child Allowance starting from December 2024. (You must submit an application in order to receive the allowance)

(1)Those who have not been receiving Child Allowance (including the special interim allowance) due to the income limit

(2)Those who are only raising high school age children (16 to 18 year olds as of March 31, 2025)

(3)Those who are currently receiving Child Allowance (including the special interim allowance) and have not submitted the Notification of Present Condition for their high school age children

(4)Those who are raising three or more children, including children up to high school age and children between the ages of 19 and 22 as of March 31, 2025

Do Not Forget to Submit Forms for the Child-rearing Allowance and Special Child-rearing Allowance

The City of Sendai will send out required documents for the Child-rearing Allowance to single-parent households with children under 18 years of age, and the Income Situation Form for the Special Child-rearing Allowance to households with children with disabilities under 20 years of age to confirm whether households are eligible to receive these allowances. Please complete the forms and submit them in person.

Enrollment Information Sessions for Evening Classes at Sendai Municipal Minami-Koizumi Junior High School Starting in April 2025 to be Held

  • Date: September 10 (Tue), 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Venue: Sendai Municipal Minami-Koizumi Junior High School
  • Content: Explanation of outline of evening classes, enrollment procedure and application method, etc.
  • Individual consultation will be held on a different date for those who are interested in enrollment
